The only reason we know anything about it is because the nutter who took the video decided to show it off to others and somebody saw a chance to make money selling it to a tabloid.

First off, what they did was wrong and by whatever rules that apply it should not have happened. But this kind of thing goes on all the time in every conflict. When the troubles were at their height in Northern Ireland the British army frequently beat people up to vent their frustrations. This is not mere propaganda. I spoke to someone it happened to. He was quite philosophical about it. He had been throwing stones at the Brit soldiers and they caught him and dished out rough justice. He was just glad they weren't paras  He learned his lesson though............run away faster next time :lol

So it goes on. This is nothing new. I wasn't even shocked, call me callous if you like. To be honest I might even have joined in myself. I was given riot training. Even though the 'rioters's were fellow soldiers, some got quite rough treatment.  When we practised with another unit....well let's just say it got too realistic:O

It all looks bad on TV though will all the smug, secure citizens sitting in their armchairs tut tutting loudly.  That's easy to do. Out in the real world life is tough and those kids found out the hard way that the Brits are not the pushover they were lead to believe.

the title of the thread is"Abuse in Iraq (again) ", but it's about some rock throwers getting beat up.

but it says nothing about atrocities committed by the terrorists, cutting off heads, blowing up innocent women, children, killing iraq cops, blowing up oil pipe lines, destroying electrical plants, the list is too long.

but some of you people get your panties all bunched up because some rock throwing criminals get beat up.

you need to flush out your brains and get a refill of reality.

saddam was committing atrocities for 35 years before the imperial storm troopers of the bush/Cheney/halaburtion cartel invaded peaceful Iraq to steal all their oil.

If the UK soldiers had beaten the protestors to break up the crowd and chase them away I could have accepted it as an act of self-defense. If the soldiers had shot a couple of protesters I could have accepted it as an act of self-defense.

Beating a defenseless handcuffed detainee is wrong no matter how you cut it.

And even if you are so backward that you condone corporal punishment (you guys should love Iran), then in any case it is not a soldier's job to hand out punishment, but the judicial system.

I have an exercise for those who might entertain the notion that the Brits overreacted.

Stand outside yr local high school - and get a group of 10 freshman to throw bricks at you - when you are up armored and not doing anything.

How long do you wait until 1 hits you? And what is the MEASURED response?

They got off easy.

I'm not going to subdue one of them, handcuff him and then proceed to beat him with a stick if that's what you're asking. The Brits didn't "overreact". They exceeded their orders and violated both UK and international Law.

If you want an example of "measured response", check out the siege on the Norwegian base in Afghanistan a week ago.
