Right now Georgian forces are bombing Tshinvali using BM-21 Grad. They officially announced hostilities against South Osetia. Russian peacekeeping forces are still not involved, but we'll see.

This is insane. I see a full-scale world crisis beginning.

I said: conventional.

What you said saves us from "democratisation" US style.

Lets see... 12 CV Battle Groups, the spooled up and functional logistical re-supply of the USAF, the long range stealth bombers and cruise missiles, the advanced technology of our 'conventional' armor, artillery and ground troops...

... your tulips would be owned; and your local commanders would need diapers. You'd better hope that our fruitcake president does not get annoyed. You wouldn't like him when he's mad.

If you think a full scale war between the US and Russia would leave anything but ruins, perhaps of the entire world, your renewed delusions of grandeur are pathetic.

Baghdad? oh sorry, that was the americans.

the russians lost 100,000 men taking berlin because stalin wanted it for his birthday. How many do you want to lose against NATO.

russian tanks VS cobra gunships= tanks lose.

sevastopol? how about the russo-japanese war.

State Entry Exit Combat Forces Population     Losses
Japan 1904 1905 400000           45000000     85000
Russia 1904 1905 2000000        136000000    125000

Russo-Japanese War  (1904-05), military conflict in which a victorious Japan forced Russia to abandon its expansionist policy in the Far East, becoming the first Asian power in modern times to defeat a European power.

tell us again about the mighty russian victorys uncle joe.

OK now I am back to this pathetic post :)

You, english-speaking person, trying to tell me about Russo-Japanese war?!

I have a bookshelf full of literature on R-J war. Russian, Japanese and even English.

It's all about how NOT to wage war.

40 years later Red Army performed Manchurian Operation.

Georgian - gruzin in Russian.
Grizun - vermin in Russian.

40 years later Red Army performed Manchurian Operation.

The Soviet invasion of Manchuria or Manchurian Strategic Offensive Operation, began on August 9, 1945, with the Soviet invasion of the Japanese puppet state of Manchukuo. The Soviets later conquered Mengjiang, as well as northern Korea, southern Sakhalin, and the Kuril Islands.

August 9, 1945 ... seems to be a significant date in world war history...

Something else happened that day that others have said was unnecessary because Japan was already defeated.

it'll come to me.

That's basically what Hitler said as he rolled east into Russia.  "I have the world's best army and airforce... bow to me."  We all know how it ended.  T34's on the Reichstag and all.  Don't ever underestimate the resolve of your enemy, and the tactical advantage of their own terrain.  It would be idiotic for someone to think a US/Russia conflict would end without incredible casualties on both sides.

Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it.

UH-1 is a main vermin chopper now. And they wear digital camos. Quite enough to accuse you guys...

You really are a sad man Boroda. The Georgians are vermin? Your hero Stalin was a Georgian.....

Oh...the UH-1 Helicopter is from the Vietnam era. It was designed as a transport helicopter but can be adapted to fill several other roles.

Kosovo

Big difference between South Ossetia and Kosovo. No one is being forcibly removed from their homes in South Ossetia and forced to leave the country. That is a form of ethnic cleansing and is exactly what was happening in Kosovo. Without the ethnic cleansing NATO would not have gotten involved. Of course, throughout all of former Yugoslavia ethnic cleansing and genocide were regular practices by all sides.

Both World Wars....we did pretty both times.

Let's see.....Korea, the South Koreans are still not under communist rule. We didn't do so badly there.

Vietnam....we bowed to political pressure and left that fight. We even made promises that our Congress wouldn't allow us to keep. That one was a mess.

Panama and Grenada were both successes.

Gulf War 1 was a success as well. (Although I personally believe we should have taken Baghdad the first time around.)

Afghanistan and Iraq, the jury is still out on those because we still aren't done in either place.

Oh, and we won the Cold War as well.  :rock

USSR lost the Cold War, and got their butts kicked in Afghanistan in a way that was reminiscent of the Vietnam war for the USA.
