Excellent fish. Top one is a white and the bottom is a black.

Spikes, what plastics do you have? We'll be able to tell you how to use them if you let us know what you have.

Spikes the combinations are endless but the 2 I use the most would be a simple lead jighead and if I want to keep it off the bottom I use a slipsinker and small splitshot to stop the slipsinker from moving too close to the plastic and hook.

Smallmouth will take almost any plastic bait there is,provided you present it properly to the fish for the type of water your fishing.

    :salute
Spikes, I have an amazing rig that works well for bass, but is mostly used for Walleye from what I've seen.

First, tie 3 octopus hooks (varying sizes but 4 is excellent). Onto one line about 2 feet long. Use a snell knot.

Tie on a hook at the end first. Once you have tied it on using a snell style knot, slide another hook down the line about 1 3/4"  from the last one. (Where you place the hook before you start tying line around the shank of it will determine where it rests). Tie the hook on with a snell knot also. Do this again for the last hook. (Be sure to place the line in your mouth before tightening the knot so it doesn't burn or weaken, plus it will give you a nice, tight knot).

Once you do this, take any plastic worm (six inchers will work well for this technique). Thread the worm onto all three hooks in a way that the end result is something like this... (done on paint, sue me).

(Image removed from quote.)

Add a bullet sinker and cast it in front of weeds for Walleye (so I've heard), Largemouths, Smallies and even large bluegill.

What kinds of plastics do you have? Specifically?
thanks guys,

I've got a LOT of salamander plastics...some crayfish etc. for Bass I love using tubes with weedless hooks on them...where I go on our lake it's a pretty good chance you'll catch one every other time.

Got tons of Gary plastics and such...just like using rapala's and my all time favorite Erie Dearies.
I'll have to go look some more for them...many I just like sticking a 3 prong hook into them and letting it go from there.

morfiend,
When we go to Canada for our annual fishing trip we load up on floating jigheads from Cabelas. The walleye up there love them...I think our count in 3 days was 75 fish with just those jigheads a couple years ago...most my dad and I have ever caught in our years up there.

To tell a little story, we were out on the boat up there and my dad had a Genesee beer can that blew into the water...as he went to get it out of the water a northern came up and took it down with him...never saw it again. :uhoh

You usually use Salamanders for Largemouths.  Crayfish are excellent for walleye and smallies. The Gary baits I'm guessing is that Yakamato or whatever it is brand? I've gotten some nice hits on those, no joke, by threading a circle hook through the middle and casting it out.

Yup Gary Yamamoto. Good stuff especially when it was free. :)  I just don't use plastics that much...to me rapala's, tubes, jigheads work so much better. Thanks for the info!  Going to have to rig a fwe things up and try em out tonight.

Fly fishing? It is weird at first, but once you get the hang of it, it becomes a deadly method for trout, bluegill, bass and crappie.

I did some bass fishing earlier in the day. I was in a small pond were about 7 friends and I were doing a bass fishing competition just for fun. I started off with a 7 weight fly rod with a huge popping fly on it making my way around the lake. The good thing about a fly rod is you can really get into areas with a lot of weed cover if you're accurate enough. I did about 10 casts in a perfect area right in between a few lily pads and then, BOOM! That bass hit that fly like it meant business. Then I switched over to a regular rod and caught a small bass on a worm and a large bass using a small bluegill.

Spike grab so 1/4 and 1/8th ounce lead jigheads or lead substitute and try them around rock piles and underwater humps.

Throw the jig past the structure then jig it back up and over the hump or pile, you'll get lots of snags but the jigs are cheap. In a pinch I'll use large splitshot and a long shank hook and make my own jig if I run out.

Try that with the crayfish plastics, remember to hook them so they swim tail first, when the walleye stop biting you can pick up some big smallies in the same water like this.

Now for my little story Spike, my Mom inlaw like to scuba and went on a cold water dive in Geaorgian Bay! Cold as in 51 degrees in August, anyways the dive was around war of 1812 wrecks that are in the area and there lots of Rock islands with drop offs.So Mom is diving and see what she thought was an old deadhead{sunken logs that rise and fall in the water}as she swims closer for a good look, the log bends into a "C" shape and just takes off out of sight.
She about 5ft and said the log looked as big or bigger than her, onlt 2 fish could get that large,Muskie or Sturgeon, both inhabit the area and 65lb Muskie's have been caught on rod and reel there. Cant say for sure what it was but my moneys on a 70lb plus Muskie.

Oh and I've heard of them taking cans, even bottles before! It's illegal now but squirrel{without the camera} were commonly used to catch the big ones!!!

Spikes, I've heard that a worm with either a jig head or bullet weight (Black body with a chartreuse tail) is a Largemouth slayer.

Last night for this club I'm in, they need to have a fundraiser sometime in the fall. They voted either fish fry or car wash. They said that they wouldn't be able to afford all that catfish. I raised my hand.... :x :x :x

So now I have to catch enough Catfish, Bluegill, Bass and anything else, to feed however many people decide to come.
I'll have two good friends of mine (my brother-in-law and an old highschool teacher who is the head of our county's NSSP program) as backup.

Who thinks I can slay the fish?  :airplane:

And if you answer the previous question, what batter? Buttermilk, beer or just plain fish breading?

We do our Catfish just rolled in seasoned flour and deep fried in the same fryer we use for french fries and/or hush puppies.  We've also done it rolled in aluminum foil and cooked on the BBQ grill.  Last Bass we did was beer battered and pan fried, but we didn't like it as well as the BBQ grilled fish.

Was out at Raystown tuesday bank fishing in the Hawns Cove/Parks Orchard area (come out of Snyders Run, go straight....don't turn left to go to lake...go past the big Island on your left and back into the cove) and at about 1800 or so the Stripers started feeding on the shad.   What a sight!  Spent 30 minutes or so watching these 20 lb + fish jumping completely out of the water and throwing up water plumes like some fat kid doing cannon balls!  They only stopped when the monsoon rains started falling.  Good luck out there.

Try some Old Bay on that grilled catfish. I made some filleted catfish on the grill several years ago at my daughter's birthday party and my father-in-law who said catfish taste like fecal matter was eating like it was going out of style until he found out what it was. :D

I just went through my old tackle and found all my old supplies that I had bought to do Carolina Rigs and never used. Hopefully that will do the trick  :pray  I will definitely be trying all those spots out that you guys have pointed out to me. No matter what I will be enjoying the peace and quiet that Raystown offers during the week.

Edit:
Oh and don't forget that salt water rinse after cleaning the fish. :aok

Who thinks me and my friends will be able to catch enough fish for about 400 people? By Autumn.

(May be more, depends on how much of the county comes).

We have a couple rivers, no lakes anywhere near.

Imma be doing some serious fishing before long. First time in quite a few months due to my broken wrist.
