Joysticks
« on: December 12, 2015, 03:54:07 PM »
Looking for a new joystick for Xmas. Currently use a X52 so looking for something around the same setup. The TM Hotus might be a hair too expensive, unless I can find some kind of deal. Been looking at Ch products and the X55. Does the CH fighter stick have enough buttons? If you have any experience with X55 or CH Produtcs your opinion would be greatly appreciated.

I've been using CH Combatstick, pedals and throttle for many years, very satisfied with them.

For Aces High there are enough buttons (I do not use buttons for landing gear, tail hook, bailout, etc), only for flight controls, views, guns, flaps and dive brakes.   When playing around with X-plane I find I could use more buttons for some of the other functions such as thrust vectoring, wing-sweep, etc.

I bought a new CH throttle last year or so and I'm less than pleased with it.

For the money I could have bought an X55 but they werent available quite yet. The newer Ch stuff isnt quite as good as the older stuff and they dont support it like they did.

A complete ch setup will cost pretty close to what a warthog setup costs, although I'm including a set of peddles in the CH setup.

The X55 is about as much as the throttle alone and everyone I know who has an X55 has said nothing but good things about them. So if money is no object I would recommend the warthog otherwise I would suggest the X55.

I plan to replace my CH throttle with an X55 throttle and as a bonus I'll have a backup JS for my warthog.   I broke my warthog throttle, but it was my fault.

  YMMV.

Had the newer CH stuff had huge problems with the joystick, went to the Warthog and cant imagine using anything else. I heard the X55 is also nice just a bit light on the feel or so they say.

Hey bud I use the X52 throttle and a CH 568 combat stick works great love it, didn't like the CH fighter stick buttons set up is why I got the combat stick. The difference is the fighter stick has 2 more hat switches and the combat stick has butons where the 2 hats are on the fighter stick. I have a trackir so i don't need 4 hats on the stick rather have buttons the 2 extra hats switches.

Got my CH setup in 2004.  Couldn't be happier, but it's showing it's age.  Boxed it up in about 2009/10 and got an X52... wore it out and got the CH stuff out again.  I hear CH aint so great these days, a shame.

I got a replacement CH combatstick a year ago and it just isn't the same as my 7 year old one.  Spikey as hell and needs calibrating all the time might have to look at something better.

Wow! This dude really did build his own cockpit lol.

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of all the hat switches either. 2 is fine. I think I'm gearing on the combatstick. Does the button on the side pointy finger change profiles or can it be used as a button as well?

I too use an OLD set of CH and I have a view switch going, but I have parts. However I was thinking of getting a T-16000m http://www.amazon.com/Hercules-2960706-Thrustmaster-T-16000M-Flight/dp/B001S0RTU0 from Thrusmaster My brother in law has it and Im very impressed with how smooth the control is. The response is very clean and accurate.

My CH stick had me falling out of the sky for no apparent reason.

I switched to Thrustmaster T-1600. It is so much better.

CH has become expensive junk.

My CH Fighterstick has 168 programmable buttons in multiple modes. Takes some getting used to however if you have been working with a twisty stick. Each unit ( stick $200.00 & throttle $200.00)total cost around $400 and some change brand new. You can however hit up ebay and buy someone's used for maybe alittle over half the cost. I suggest buying yours new it comes with driver , manual and warranty. I have had mine for 7 years and had no problems yet with it other than the colossal headache of programming the darn thing. 168 programmable buttons in 4 different mode configurations can be a beast at first. Best of luck in your search  :salute
