Agreed.

It really is not terribly difficult to be pleasant and sportsman-like.

Also agree.  You are a constant, fine example of “be pleasant and sportsman-like.”  Thank you sir!

It is amazing that this is such an issue.  Seems very simple to just de-tune the toxicity and carry on with those that also enjoy the fun of the game.

You can de-tune 200...so if you feel it's toxic, detune it.

Agreed.

Whether you think it's playful or that people should have thicker skins, the fact is that smack talk runs people out of an arena.  We saw this happen in the AvA some years ago.  It only takes one or two such personalities to have the effect.  Calling people ack-runners, HO-tards, pickers, gangers and so on produces resentment, and people leave.

It really is not terribly difficult to be pleasant and sportsman-like.

The player who was toxic and ran off a bunch of players, HTC didn't believe anyone who reported that a new name was said player....disabling 200 isn't going to keep new players longer, only run out old because...

Guess what old guys, MOST GAMERS DONT CARE ABOUT "TOXIC" CRAP...they have dealt with FAR worse toxic communities...

Look at WOW, the most popular clip from that game is a "toxic" player Leroy Jenkins.

CSGO had match fixing...

League of Legends top streamer is known for being TOXIC

Per the logic in this thread POTW is a toxic squad for telling people on 200 for years where we were going and egging people on to defend against it.

Per the logic people spamming FUSS is Toxic

Per the logic people talking politics is toxic.

The list goes on.

Could someone please explain what all this fuss is about?  Real Life issues have kept out of the game for about two weeks.  I don't see any announcement about channel 200, just a lot of fuss here.  I log in to the game this morning just to check it out, and I see that channel 200 is working as normal.  So what gives?

Junky I want to be clear what I talking about.  This particular player was PMing me telling me I am a POS  (piece of waste), and a male reproductive organ.  All for playing the game.  Now I used to laugh it off and I still will , and I still will add it to the Pigs FaceBook wall of Shame, but I will report it in a effort to clean it up.  This sort of toxic communication on 200 and via PM has to go.  It is simply not good for the game.  Saying you suck or fly like a noob is one thing, this is something else entirely and will run off new players and is totally inappropriate if sent or viewed by a younger player.

Hitech turned off 200 as a test. The reason he gave was due to "reviews" like the one quoted below.

He has since turned on all communication to be like it was before. The "fuss" is everyone posting their opinions on the good and bad of cross country comms, and possible solutions to fix what some believe are "problems.

Why we are trying some communications changes.

A review of Aces High.

It is a good simulation but there are a low number of players and many of them have dreadful attitudes towards other players. For example there is a high level of superficial charm but after a while the real personalities start to come through and then you realise there is something very wrong with many of these people and you are probably dealing with an unusually high proportion of psychopaths. There are no new players and when they do get new players, they tend to leave very quickly because of the dreadful social interactions. When these problems are raised in the community they are denied and burried. The community argues that their community is friendly and supportive: let me make this very clear, they are friendly and supportive of each other but not outsiders. Having said all that, there are some decent human beings in the game but they generally let the psychopaths ruin it for the nice people, probably because they do not want to be attacked like the other victims. So if you can handle personality disorders and you like to fly a very well built air combat simulation then go for it.

HiTech

Personally, I think comparing this games "toxicity" level with other games is foolish. HTC should set their "standard" and stick with it. If they want if "church goer" friendly then that is how they are going to have to gear it and everyone will have to adapt.

200 is like the weather, sometimes it is pleasant other times it is like a hurricane of stupid and mean. Personally nobody ever says anything nasty to me, (prolly cause I'm reasonably inept,) but I do detune it when it starts taking up excessive text buffer space with gibberish. There is no call for Nasty PMs and I think it is fair to expect people to control themselves in that case. Maybe a little more leeway for 200 as you have to tune it in and generally your foolishness is on public display.

Someone has to know to tune 200. That so called review was most likely written by someone who was banned from the boards.

The moral of this story is simply that one should never be where one does not belong,

So when you see your neighbor carrying something, help them with his load...

And don't go mistaking Paradise for that home across the road!

Thanks, Gentlemen.  As I said, Real Life has kept me away as it often does this time of year, and I missed the announcement.

I hope to be back in the sky this week.

Yes - that's right and I'll happily admit it was me Waystin. I didn't know you were so fragile...but then again that's the society we live in nowadays where you need a participation trophy just for showing up. So go ahead and add that to your wall of shame.

I have no problem with being squelched - and in fact I welcome it if an individual doesn't want to see my PM's. But using the extreme of getting chat fully disabled where you can no longer chat on country, 200, PM, even so much as send a salute - that's just plain wrong.

As I said if you look at the root of the toxicity it's from the crap gameplay (beating one country to submission with few bases left...one country having to fly basically paper airplanes while guys running around in perk planes, 20 guys vulching over a field when they've already been beaten down, and the list goes on...) and the over the top mods that happens that causes the frustration yet no one bothers to look at that.

No matter - I'm likely done after this weekend because I don't need another parent to tell me what is right and wrong. If you can't take some comments and get offended by it use the squelch.

Thats the point hes trying to make. If YOU cant keep your cool and NOT blow up with PMs to anyone then someone MUST step in and take control. Admit it, you were the aggressor. It doesnt matter whether Waystin is soft skinned or not, YOU shouldnt have the ability to mouth off to another play just because your ticked off.

Might be time to grow up.
