I don't fully agree brother. I have full HOTAS And have used it (with other setups) being like you.. A multiDecade Ace Killer.. I feel the touch controllers will rapidly improve as the tracking capabilities improves..
If you sit in a real P40, Spit, Pony or other, you will see that the range of movement for a fly by wire flight stick has in like 12 to 18 inches.. wayyyyy outside the range of a HOTAS. What is interesting is that high tech did a fantastic job in simulating that a specific range of motion using the touch controller very very closely matches how an aircraft would react with set amount of deflection applied to a flight  stick in real life..  And its the same thing with the yoke in a B25 or MOSSY.. Yes in reality physically I'm holding a touch controller in each hand but in game in virtual reality after 15 minutes of lFlying the brain actually think you are holding that piece of equipment. If using a mouse and keyboard or hot bellybutton gives you an advantage then that means I have to work that much harder to overcome that advantage and beat you. Not used paci flying the brain actually think you are holding that piece of equipment. If using a mouse and keyboard or hot bellybutton gives you an advantage then that means I have to work that much harder to overcome that advantage and beat you. Not you specifically... lol

If you add an extension to your stick and mount it lower you will get that "full throw" your looking for. Some stick even have them available to do this.

Yeah, but then you run into a 51 like mine and we wind up having a hell of a knife fight.

the weaknes of the pony is that people expect you to run away, but once in a while somebody gets tricked and you slow down and nail them.  gotten many a p38, zero's and other slow planes.  dont do it all the time but it's fun to do it once in a while.

Absolutely.   The problem is when their friends show up after you’ve been beaten down on energy.   Never a fun spot.

I still remember the time back in MW that I was in a Goon and was found by two ponies. I started maneuvering. After about 10 minutes of white knuckles, both had angered. I landed 2 ponies kills in a goon.

Hey SAAMIAM. Glad to hear you're sticking with it.

As an old-timer here I can say that some of us have gotten worse then we were 20 years ago. I know I have. The worse part is realizing you screwed up and that you're gonna pay for it lol.  :bhead

:t

I admit though, it is way harder now for a noob than it was in 2000.  There was a much more varied spectrum of players then so you had a much better chance of running into an enemy that wasn't a hyper-predator multi-decade long ace.  Now, that is pretty much all that is left.

Back then, it wasn't often a 15min flight to action, so the  launch-shoot-die cycle seemed shorter and the investment cost of dying didn't seem so high.  A noob may only get 4 min of combat time in an hour of game-play

Excellent post.  I flew for a while around 2000 and had a blast.  There were just enough players on my skill level to make it fun.  I came back to the game 4-5 years ago only to be welcomed by a condensed number of aces occupying the arena.  If not for GV's, I would have cancelled my subscription a long time ago.  You can tell people to go to training all day long, but that's not being realistic.  Most new players, especially those with busy schedules want to play in the MA right away and learn as they go like most of you did.  Unfortunately though, the game environment today makes that nearly impossible.

That's why most players are so easy to beat.  I agree that's what people want to do, but it was never a good idea when you can learn in an hour what seems to take years otherwise. The problem is people think they know 80% of ACM, they just need a couple of tips or tricks to round out the "knowledge", when actually they know 8% of ACM, if that, but they might have years of experience picking easy kills they can't get in a fair fight.

Well he did just go off on HT in another thread regarding the touch controllers that all of us have advised he ditch asap. If he was this high scoring guy in another sim then surely he has a perfectly good hotas setup. His whole immersion is so much better using the touch controllers or less without them is bs. I ditched the hands as soon as I figured out how to. It was cool for about a hop and a half!

If you're flying around looking at how cool your hands look, chances are somebody else that's looking at that cool looking plane in their gunsight is gonna kill ya!

Unless it's me cuz I suck which is long documented!
