Ok, a few corrections here, so listen up kids.

I was reading up a bit on Operation Market-Garden because Pug666 had corrected me in saying it was not predominantly an American Operation, where I always imagined it was.
Well, Pug666, you need to read up on your history.

The 82nd and 101st were assigned the 2 southerly sectors of Operation Market (capturing the bridges). The 1st British was assigned the northern sector and the most important bridge.
Seeing operation Garden (the crossing of the British armoured column and advancement onto Western Germany, never took place, it ended up with it being an American led operation.

Granted, Monty did devise the plane, but I still consider it an American operation due to most of the fighting and liberation taken place by the American troops as the Brits were holding off while waiting for the 82nd and 101st to complete their operations. Thank you and goodnight.

Kingonads...Saying the Vatican signed a non-agression pact or treaty is absurd because they couldn't defend themselves from the Nazi youth, let alone from the Wermacht. As I said before, you must have no idea what you are talking about. Try going to Rome and you'll see what I mean. There is no border or line to tell you when the Vatican starts or when you are within the Vatican. I saw Italian police inside the Vatican patrolling and so obviously within their jurisdiction. I doubt Hitler would lower himself to sign a pact with a non-state. Actually, recent information came to light that Hitler was planning on demolishing St.Peters Cathedral and the adjoining area (because that's basically all the Vatican is) to construct a villa for himself.
The best defence Switzerland always had was pretending it didn't exist. If Albania were to attack Switzerland, Switzerland would be taken over in 5 minutes. Bankers don't make very good soldiers. Also, if you must know, Switzerlands roads are all mined in case of invasion. That is their best defence, blowing up the roads. Very impressive! (also obvious you've never been to Switzerland).
If Rommel this, if Rommel that...blah blah. Fact remains that Rommel lost. It went down in history and you can give all the ifs and buts you want but that wont change a thing.
So, Britain has never liberated any country without America's help, huh? You thik so?

Can you say Falkland Islands. Where was Americas help when Britain liberated the Maldives? Answer me that? Haha. Exactly. Britain liberated the islands on her own!

Can you say Malta. Who do you think liberated it in 1798 from French forces? That's right, the Brits. Where was the yanks?

The monuments to Canada's sons stand next to the American's, the French, and the British.

Go look at the headstones at the cemetary at Normandy.

Every single one there is a monument to a hero; and many are Canadian.

In spite of FDSS, I still look upon the English as some of the finest people on earth.

And No....I'm not Canadian. But I appreciate them, and would stand by them, as they have us.

FDSS, you are clear our of touch with reality.

No monumnets to Canada in Holland. Not only was Canada instrumental in liberating Holland, we also hosted their royal family, during the duration of the war. Our government passed a law in parliment declaring the third floor of the Grace Hospital in Ottawa to be Dutch terrority. This was so the princess could be born on Dutch soil. The Hague is Ottawa's sister city and EVERY year Holland sends THOUSANDS of tulip bulbs to Ottawa to show their apprecitation to Canada for our contribution to the war.

As far as the Italian Campaign is concerned, you...once again, just don't know what you are talking about. I suppose you've never heard of the Canadaian 1st Army. You know? The one that broken the Adolph Hitler Line in Italy, the "Line that would never fall". Broke it in a day.

I could go on with examples, but I grow bored with trying to educate a simpering moron that won't bother to pick up a book before shooting his mouth off.

I'm a Canadian but would never try to escalate the achievements of my country in WWII over those of another. What you have to remember however, is that when Britain requested aid, Canada was quick to respond by sending a large force even though it's population could ill afford to lose it. Canada is a sparsely populated country even in todays standard. Belitteling the contributions of any country is silly, as the loved ones lost can never be replaced, no matter what nationality they were.

I've done some research on WWII Casualties (not a lot however), but the per capita casualty numbers are higher for Canada than for the United States. Once again, this dosen't make one country greater than another. Just states that the Canadian serviceman or woman felt it was as necessary to put his life on the line in foreign lands as it was for servicemen or women of any other nation.

Complete and utter rubbish!

Canada's conscription of civilian men of fighting age was implemented only for HOMELAND defence up until 1944 when casualties following the invasion of Normandy forced the Canadian government to send some civilian men as replacements to fight in various parts of Europe. So civilian conscripted Canadians fought for a roughly a year in the 6 year war. All the rest were professional soldiers. FACT!

Per capita is misleading because the population of Canada is tiny in respect to a country like the USA. FACT!

Americans and British are considered the real liberators of Holland after Operation Market-Garden. They were the first in (or pretty much furthest in). I saw a documentary a few nights ago called "The Real Band of Brothers" where Dutch people named troops from the 82nd and 101st as "angels" because of the fact that they came from the skies and liberated towns. There is no reason to even think Canada liberated Holland on her own, because even with the 1st Canadian Army pushing from Belgium towards Holland the British army was also pushing into Holland at the same time. FACT

So please, don't make up your own history. I want facts here.

p.s. Driving through France from Calais to the Gran Saint Bernard pass in Switzerland via country lanes and B roads I counted all the monuments on the side of the roads and I can't recall seeing one which was Canadian. I wasn't talking about the headstones in Normandy, I said monuments.

p.p.s Ask yourselves in which sectors was Berlin divided in when it was finally taken over?

Came in late. Thought the thread was amusing and was wondering why so many participated then it starts getting ugly and insulting to the memories of a lot of good men. I don't like this kind of talk or kidding in a place were we all come from different countries and backgrounds. Jesus, I'm all for free speech but sometimes I pine for a good dictatorship where stunninghunks like this could be dealt with properly.

Don't give me that crap. I never insulted any of the Candians who died or their memories. Stop trying to play the victim. I'd like to retort that I hate the internet and anonymous bbs's because it gives a place for "holier-than-thou" hypocrites to air their opinions on what should be censored and what shouldn't. Every person who fought and died in any war should be given the credit they deserve. I was simply stating my opinion that Canada's influence to the overall outcome of the Second World War is commonly hyped up due to ignorance and given the facts we find that Canada (as a nation!!!) did not in fact contribute as much as many people think.
