Michael Moore admits Disney 'ban' was a stunt
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen!

I have seen BFC. "Based in fact" is a hilariously inaccurate comment when used in reference to this movie.

Im nuetral on Moore, I think he is funny but the left doesnt need a Limbaugh and if he is a liar that doesnt hold water with me.  I have seen the claims - about the gun offered in the bank, the HEston speech after columbine - and these things are very well refuted by Moore at the link I posted, with suporting evidence.

as Ripley would say "Believe it or not!"

"Not", then.

Here, read the what the lady at the bank said:

Quote
She says that Moore's signing papers in the film was just for show. His immediately walking out of the bank with a long-gun was allowed because "this whole thing was set up two months prior to the filming of the movie" when he had already complied with all the rules, including a background check.

Now, who do you want to believe?

I'm sure you'll go with Moore.

I'm going with the banker. Want to know why?

Because in the not too distant past, I was a licensed gun dealer. Further, I participated in "guns for bank deposits" deals a few times. Both as the depositor that had to get his gun from the licensed dealer to whom the bank sent the gun after the deposit was made and as the licensed dealer acting as the intermediary between a bank and its depositor. In either case, this procedure is one of a week or more, not an hour or two.

So, my personal experience in this area leads me to think Moore's a liar. It's possible that he might have found a bank that is willfully violating the US firearms laws. Anything is possible. However, I'm willing to bet that BATF was all over that bank after this film, just checking it out. Sure didn't hear of any punitive action against the bank; did you?

Moore a liar? See the link on the "Disney scam" above. Oh.. wait.. that's expected of him. Sorry.

BFC was "based on fact"??  that is like saying that genocide is ok because it is "based on fact"... you can allways find a base...  the fact is that... allmost everything in the movie was dishonest.    It is much more accurate to say that everything in the movie was based on an agenda and that lieing and missrepresentation was the key ingredient...

loved when he proved that white guys were perfectly safe walking around in south central L.A. by taking his entire crew on a stroll down the street in broad daylight... or... the way he read the plaque on the B29... either he can't read or he is flat out lying..  what he read was not at all what the plaque said.

toad has a link that takes the "documentary" apart piece by piece.

why should I expect any different from the new "film"?

guess this was gonna be the democrats "october surprise" this election eh?

Yep... you can get a weatherby in lieu of interest for CD's at some banks ... If you want one it is a fairly good deal.

getting a weatherby won't make you a bank robber tho nor will a lot of bank robbers get a CD in order to get a hunting rifle regestered to them.

In all my searches I can find no instance of anyone robbing a bank with a weatherby... I did find lots of instances of people robbing banks with knives and...

far more banks pass out knife sets than they do weatherby's

it would seem that the bank was playing the odds in a smart manner.... give out knives... get robbed... give out weatherbys... get customers.

Ah yes, French bashing - a very popular pastime on this board in months/years gone by. And the French are just expected to lie down and take it.

But oh! if anyone dares to say anything bad about America, woe betide them! Erm... free speech, anybody?

It cracks me up to see America getting so bent out of shape about an "anti-American" film having won an award - in France of all places. Muhahahaha! :rofl

Think of this as the price payable for all that French bashing you guys did. I am in a state of euphoria over this entire deal! :lol

Balance, my boys, balance. ;)

WSFTGISFTG - Gawd, I love that phrase! :aok

Beetle you need to roll down those knee high socks and get some sun on those pasty white british leggs of yours ;)

I cant resist.....I know the US is not perfect.  And unlike some I dont expect special treatment from the world just because we have been the worlds 911 force for almost the last 50 years.  The french deserve my respect because with out them Americans might be having teatime instead of happy hour.  Fact of the matter is they are easy targets to poke fun at (just like americans) and when I see the opertunity....I poke.

Its no different than making fun of brits for lack of sun light even though the last time I was there they had the worst shreckin heat wave I'd ever been through.  :aok

PS.....WTF does WSFTGISFTG mean?

iirc he says that he called ahead to see how it worked.  Also he claimed that the bank WAS a licensed firerm dealer and they had many of the rifles stored at the bank.  And the Disney thing - didnt he admit that he knew this was going to be a problem? is that what you mean?   But Im not going to defend Moore.  Like I said, as far as Im concerned the jury is still out on him

you participated in the guns for accounts deal - how does the bank make money on that?  do you agree to a different interest rate or something?

If anybody has doubts about personal bravery of French people, read "Street Without Joy" or "Hell in a Very Small Place".

Moore's whole schtick is dramatizing his collection of gotcha questions.  His productions have one theme:  The World According To Moore.  He epitomizes the accusation that many critics thrive on getting close to power without being responsible for it.

Here is some stuff at the link I posted

The ad from the bank
http://www.michaelmoore.com/words/wackoattacko/images/ad_bankgun.jpg

here is the transcript he posted from the movie:

Transcript of Bowling For Columbine:

MOORE NARRATION: I had spotted an ad in the local Michigan paper that said if you opened an account at North Country Bank, the bank would give you a gun.

TELLER 2: You do a CD and we'll hand you a gun. We have a whole brochure here that you can look at.

MOORE: Mmm-hmm. All right.

TELLER 2: Once we do the background check and everything.

MOORE: Right, right.

TELLER 2: It's yours to go.

MOORE: Ok. Um, all right. Well that, um, that's the account I'd like to open.

TELLER 2: We have a vault which at all times we keep at least five hundred fire arms.

MOORE: Five hundred of these you have in your vault?

TELLER 2: In our vault.

MOORE: Wow.

TELLER 2: We have to do a background check.

MOORE: At the bank here or - ?

TELLER 2: At the bank. Which we are a licensed fire arm dealer

Here is Moore's account - how does it jibe with the Teller's?

When you see me going in to the bank and walking out with my new gun in "Bowling for Columbine" – that is exactly as it happened. Nothing was done out of the ordinary other than to phone ahead and ask permission to let me bring a camera in to film me opening up my account. I walked into that bank in northern Michigan for the first time ever on that day in June 2001, and, with cameras rolling, gave the bank teller $1,000 – and opened up a 20-year CD account. After you see me filling out the required federal forms ("How do you spell Caucasian?") – which I am filling out here for the first time – the bank manager faxed it to the bank's main office for them to do the background check. The bank is a licensed federal arms dealer and thus can have guns on the premises and do the instant background checks (the ATF's Federal Firearms database—which includes all federally approved gun dealers—lists North Country Bank with Federal Firearms License #4-38-153-01-5C-39922).

Within 10 minutes, the "OK" came through from the firearms background check agency and, 5 minutes later, just as you see it in the film, they handed me a Weatherby Mark V Magnum rifle (If you'd like to see the outtakes, click here).
