Great bump. I forgot how much I just loathed that sappy Steve Anthony fellow and his cat. I used to hunt him with Thunder in 205's...truley great AH stuff.

Now after the most successful Dora/Pony sortie I ever experienced he has become a angry fun FDB.  :)

Best of the Thread goes to The Wobbled "Avaition background: I Own a 2/3 replica p-51

I have been flying flight sims (read: AH) for about a month.  I am really enjoying the (little) time I get to spend with the sim and particularly appreciate the willingness of all of you to be so helpful.

I read somewhere that dogfighting is really like a chess match in the sky.  I am finding that to be true, except that dogfighting seems to require the simultaneous and instantaneous evaluation of many more variables than chess!  I am sure that those of you that amaze me (and kill me) every time I log on are not only very practiced but also very bright.  <S>!

I don't yet have a squad, although once I gain a little proficiency I'd like to find one.

My AH callsign is JNOV.  It is an acronym for a Latin phrase that, roughly translated, means "justice notwithstanding the verdict."

I am 33 years old.

I am an attorney in Austin, Texas.

I attended The Ohio State University for 12 years and have B.S., M.S., Ph.D. (electrical engineering), and J.D. (law) degrees.  I guess I was just trying to avoid the "real world" for as long as possible!

I am originally from Cleveland, Ohio and still consider that "home."  Like many Clevelanders, I am a big sports fan, particularly of the Indians and Browns.

I have been happily married for six years, and my wife is currently pregnant with our first child.  He (the doctor is 90% certain of the sex) is due on St. Patrick's Day, and we are in the midst of a heated debate over names.  I'm not terribly particular; my only real aim is to avoid subjecting him to some obscure Irish name (the combination of my wife's heritage and the baby's due date seems too much for her to resist) that will subject him to a childhood of constant ridicule.

When I am not working (which is most of the time)or playing with my computer, I like to work out, read (mainly history and science fiction), or build new computers!

I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of the Cougar HOTAS that I preordered, because I am sure that, just like that new $400 driver, it is going to make all the difference in the world!  :)

Welcome to AH JNOV!
My wife is from OH also, and is very Irish Catholic.
We are expecting in January as well and are looking at Irish names  :) .
She went to Kent State, and we will be moving back to the Kent area in a few weeks/months.

Thanks for the welcome!  My wife just ordered every book from Amazon.com that has the words "Irish Names" in the title!

Enjoy the move back to the Kent area.  I went to school with lots of folks that grew up there, and, based on their accounts, I suspect that it is a good place to live and raise a family.

Your Aces High call sign? It's significance?
Charon is the boatman in classical mythology who transports the souls of the dead across the river Acheron into Hades. (The "Pilot" of the river of death in Dante's Inferno)Let's go boating!

Your name?
Keith Reid

Your age?
36

Where do you live?
Chicago

What do you do for a living?
Senior editor for National Petroleum News, heading to the National Association of Convenience Stores annual convention tomorrow to eat samples of bad c-store food, look at a few gas pumps, and watch the inevitable Playboy twins, Juggs women and perhaps say hi to Larry Flint.

Before this 2 years freelance writing and computer HW/SW consulting and before that five years as doing PR for the Water Quality Association.

What is your marital/family status?

Just married a month ago. She understand my addiction to computer gaming (AH in particular these days) about as much as I understand her addiction to shoes.

What schools have you attended?
Norther Illinios Univ (1983-1984); lifestyle induced injection of the real world (1985-1988/learned to do some good torch and mig work though); Oakton Community college and a BA degree from Columbia College Chicago (1989-1992)

What are your hobbies?
Computers, water skiing, astronomy, listening to bands, history, science fiction (reading and writing), shooting (pistols).

What sims have you been involved in? Your call sign and squad in that sim?
First multiplayer flight sim ever, Airfight(?) back in the late 1970s. My stepfather had access to a university computer and would sneak me in to play on the PLATO system. At about 2 seconds per frame with a keyboard interface it was pretty rough flying those F-104s and Mig-21s. Had more luck with the Empire game where my shining moment was hitting a Romulan Bird of Prey with three photon torpedoes for my first online kill  :)

Since:F-15 strike eagle on the Apple 2, Falcon on a 286, several thousand kills in RedBaron 1... many, many more over the years but few boxed sims after I found AW in 1993(?), where I played on Delphi as Charon/4261.

Do you have any other connection to aviation or WWII?
First thing I ever saved up to buy, when I was probably 8 or 9 years old, was Jablonski's B-17. It tortured me from publication ads in Airpower and Wings for many months before I had enough money (with some generous help from Mom im sure) to buy it.

Introductory flight coupon sitting on my desk right now.

E-5/19DH (armored cavalry instructor)in the US Army Reserves 1984-1992, where the main gun on my 113 was a frickin' turbo laser M-2 .50 cal. Active duty locations included Fort Knox and Bliss.

Grandfather served on a communications ship in WW2 from Torch to Okiniwa. Worked in the laundry and ran a still (like any good West Virginia coal miner should) which helped take the edge off the U-boats and kamakazis. His GQ station was tossing 5" shells into the breech of a gun.

Other interesting things about yourself.

Partied with Csomonaut German Titov -- first man to spend a significant amount of time in space (before Glenn). He was quite a character (died recently at 65). The drinks were flowing and he was joking about wanting to go back up test the effects aging has on the sexual libo in space. What a hoot.

Do you have any other connection to aviation or WWII? Well, I have a great uncle who flew for the RAF in WW2, - Spitfires and Mustangs, and came through alive, and an ace.
Other interesting things about yourself. Naaaa. Well, I am a wannabe-pilot.
It was very interesting to carry out the flight trials at Rechlin with the Spitfire and the Hurricane. Both types are very simple to fly compared to our aircraft, and childishly easy to take-off and land. (Werner Mölders)

Mmmm, in fact, i had absolutely no interest in planes and that kind of stuff, at all, until 6 or 7 years ago, but my damned brother in law (buitrake  :D ) persisted in providing me those stupidities in a box (USNF for DOS, iF22, FCorpsGold, AWIII, F18 Korea, EAW...) till he obtained (grrrrr) another addict...
Do you have any other connection to aviation or WWII?
Absolutely not. In fact, no hero aspirations and a potential desertor if that was the case. Ok, tell me a dweeb  :D . What the hell? closer to pacifism and ecologism than to those things of wars... (human mind is really strange and contradictory, isn't it?  ;) ) Be advised: that doesn't mind i don't have respect for those of u who served and those who maby think my point is more the point of an outdated and coward damned hiipie).
No, wait. Poor relation, but my grandpa was a doctor during the (un)civil spanish war (1936-1939), and he attended soldiers of both sides in equal terms (proud of it  :) )
Other interesting things about yourself.
