Any Air Warrior III players still around?
« on: July 13, 2004, 02:26:14 AM »
I used to play AW3 (in Big Pac full realism, SFRT then JG26 squadron flying for country B) a loooooong time ago. Had a blast with it. Won a few camps, met some awesome people, got killed way too many times... Ran into an old squad mate recently and after reminiscing about the good old days he recommended I check out Aces High.

Any AW vets here who could maybe give me a run down on how the two games are alike/different? Would appreciate much!

I think about 99% of us have played AW.
My mind is a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives.
Stay thirsty my friends.

The flight models are different. AH is not an arcade game like the AW RR arenas. More of a forgiving full reality.  Lots more bells and whistles here, too.

Hey Ditch!!

I still remember those days with JG26 :)

Iko and Filth have joinmed here recently. And EYE was playing here last year and Gman.

I have been playing AH since AW dropped.

Lots of difference between AW and AH. Change was hard but now I got used to this game.

Give it a try...but be patience man.

Most of ex-JG26 are in Rooks team.

Nice to see you around DITCH (S)

If it wasn`t for AW you probably would not be here now. AW rocked for it`s time.
Considering your youth now, I suspect AW was a little over your head at the age you would have had to of been then.

Hi Ditch!  :)  I played AW (FR and RR) from July 1998 until the end in December 2001.  CPID was Flos, member of the Krait Squadron (famous for SAC) and played for Cland.  Welcome to Aces High - I think you will recognise a lot of the names, though some may be changed slightly like mine.  ;)

Hi Ditch.

AH is; to all intents and purposes; AW4.

As in all updates; there's some pro's and cons.

Pro:

Much more stable software. Even as a new release; AH2 is less buggy than AWME was.

More features: Rockets; torpedo boats; more ground vehicles; moveable CV's; better vox and radio; beautifull clouds, terrain editor and films can be exported to AVI etc. etc.

Cons: Iffy help files; clumsy interface; poor comunity mangement and while a lot of training is done by some committed trainers there's nothing at all like AW's training cadre.

There's an active and commited events group; although events themselves don't have quite the same draw in AH that they did in AW.

Additionaly; while the planes seem to be modeled a bit more accurately in AH (depending on who you believe); the flight model is actually easier than AW FR was. There's a host of new things to get used to, such as torque and trim; but flying on the edge isn't the knife edge experience that AW FR was.

If/when you first log on; I think you'll be amazed how much better the software is than AW was; and appalled at the general behaviour. There's no AWARs around to keep things in check; and AH has never seemed to develop any ethos of it's own the way AW did. There's nothing quite so annoying as a whiney teenage voice blaring out your loudspeakers complete with obscenities about the american elections; and you can't turn it off!

Don't forget that there's a two week free trial; and even after your trial period; should you choose not to subscribe to the online arenas; the 8 player "head to head" version of the game is still free to access and play.

There's no offline element to AH as there was to AW; merely practise drones.

Welcome, Ditch.  I was "Oldma" in AW FR.  I echo what Seeker says.  Flight model is very close to what the last Beta we were sampling in AW ("Ultra," or something like that).

You'll like it here.  Come visit us in the CT for what is probably the closest thing to the old FR Fightertown.
