Wklink I'd say it's time for you to get off from that horse; There's still 600 detainees at Guantamo Concentration Camp (Don't like the name? Tough) who has been there for over 2 years basically without any rights.

What do you call a country who puts people in camps and is not offering them a change to defend themself in a court?
For me it sounds more like a third world country and not a civilized country you'd like it to be.

Who said anywhere that I think that is right?  To be honest I think they all should be seen and evaluated by an international court to determine whether they need to be detained or released.  Hundreds have been released.  I think the US is playing it very close (and probably over in some cases) with the Geneva Convention.  On the other hand, the Geneva Convention was never made for a 'war' like this.  It needs to be revisited and re-evaluated for these shadow wars.

Third world country indeed.  Just because we don't conduct ourselves in your views means we are a 'third world' country.  I'm not getting any more into this.  I do honestly feel that much of this is jealousy.  It is much easier to point out our warts, we are out there and visible.  Everything we do has an impact so it is easy to see, notice and complain about.  But when a natural disaster occurs, or a humanitarian crisis breaks out the first thing asked is 'What is America going to do about it'.  If we do nothing, which it seems a lot of folks here wish we would do, then we get slammed for not caring.  If we do go in, then we get dissed for not doing enough, or not doing it the 'right' way; or should I say the way some pointy head sitting in a plush leather chair thinks we should do it.

I have been on the ground in these conflicts.  I have seen the results of our actions.  Sure we aren't perfect but who else is going to contribute the large sums of money that we do to help the UN sanctioned and the non sanctioned things that we do to help folks around the world.  The UN talks and talks about it.  The do-nothing.  Rwanda is a perfect example.  Current events are proving this again with another human catastrophe.  The UN is nothing more than a modern League of Nations, gutless, powerless and full of it's own supposed self importance.  Let it fully investigate its oil for food program and come up with some 'world court' indictments then maybe it can talk to us about our moral compass.

Staga re:  600 detainies, civilized country,high horse,concentration camp;

Wklink was not on a high horse, but even if he was , much American blood has been spent for his right to be.

6oo detaines kept for 2 years, big deal. This is a new kind of war it will take time to figure out where these cowards fit in war.If it pleases europe we would like to figure out if these people are a danger to the U.S. If it doesnt please you tough. If norway was at war she would act no different than we have concerning the detaines. Our process has started.

Tell us, if you call gitmo a concentration camp what do you call all those camps europe made famous the last 100 years? If you have the guts tell us what word.
Had a neighbor once who has since pasted away, had a tatoo of numbers on his arm. wonder If you would have the gaul to face his granddaughter and call gitmo a concentration camp.

Civilized country, This from a european? Must have forgotten that europe gave the world nazism,communism,fascistism...REAL concentration camps from france to russia . the same europe that is taking itself back to becoming the 1st empire again...

I believe you are young with maybe a small excuse for some of what you say because of the revisionist history europe teaches now..but if you are 50 or older there is no excuse for what you say.

Concetration camp is not the same thing as extermination camp.

Noun   1.   concentration camp - a penal camp where political prisoners or prisoners of war are confined (usually under harsh conditions)
Synonyms: stockade

   2.   concentration camp - a situation characterized by crowding and extremely harsh conditions

So if Guantanamo isn't a concentration camp then what is it?

A holiday in the sun ?

Staga     reply

Staga I did look and read it. I think you should read it a little closer. It said in all these camps ,starvation, disease, exhaustion led to many deaths, the extermanation camps were for death.
Most of us are not stupid, when the word concentration camp is used the first thing that comes to mind is the legacy europe left the world. What ever camp name you use death was the norm.

Now at gitmo I have seen any hungry people as a matter of fact many of our boots on the ground have complianed about how well they eat while our people eat packaged food, they get medical, dental and religious consederation.
That is what is wrong with europe ,cant judge, well we cant say anything about the terriost cutting peoples heads off because we sometimes excute people to.....europe has no maral compass and you are a product of it.
