Sorry to hear about your encounter with ZAPP, daddog.  I completely agree with you that we should not have to listen to this type of language on range vox.  It is quite unnecessary and only causes upset - to other adults listening as well as to children.

Maybe this game is not right for people that can't control treir mouths?  If you/or anyone else want to cuss find find a better game.  My 4 year old girl likes to fly with me.  If we were out in the public you wouldn't dare talk like that in front of her would you?  And if you did, I have the tools to squelch you for while.

I cancelled my account a while ago. After coming back into the game and being relatively happy with AH2 range channel made flying in AH2 unbearable.

I made several posts on the subject that went ignored.

I never listened to channel 1 to begin with yet HTC closed that channel because of abusive behavior. Folks have asked, begged and pleaded for years that we be given the ability to squelch range channel but for one reason or another the powers that be decided it doesn’t matter if a player curses and is abusive over vox as long as they don't type it.

Not only is there all forms of abusive and obscene language thrown about on range channel but some folks use it as a meet and great and force the rest of us to suffer through their pointless chatter from everything from dryer hoses to how their lawn mower runs.

It’s also the favorite of those "mishun generals" to scream about how others play the game.

I prefer the old method or vox by using 3rd party programs. At least then you can regulate who it is you are listening to.

Well I have to say, this stuff exists out there and you aren't going to be able to get the entire community to stop swearing.  To compare behavior in AH to anything in WWII is futile because this is "apples to oranges".  The times have changed greatly, and this IS just a game.  I have to say I don't think this was handled all the best though.  I see why you are mad daddog, and this isn't meant to be offensive, but if it were me I would've squelched him, and explained to my son that there are those people out there who carry on like babies, that scream and cuss, and when you come about one of them its better to just leave them be, or squelch them in this case.  

Coming on the BBS and calling out Zapp, and specifically calling him an "ass" does nothing but bring you down to his level, and I know you are better than that.  Competetive nature causes anger, and circumstances not going your way just fuels it.  No matter how hard all of us try, we aren't going to be able to clean up all of the online gaming community, but HTC has given you a way to handle it and I say we use that tool in its full extent.

I am not defending this jerk in any shape or form.  It is a shame that this should be required, it is a shame range can't be squelched, but it probably would have been faster and more productive to type

On the contrary,  these people need to be called out in public.  Right now, the only way to get back at them is bublic humiliation.

I don't know man, teaching your kid to "get back at them" seems a bit crazy.  And calling them out on the BBS is doing exactly the same thing that you are persecuting them for.  I'd rather see my children get the point that there they are going to encounter people like this in their lives, and instead of giving them fuel for their fire its better just to tell them to have a good day and leave them in their little PO'd world.

Well we just keep slugging away, it's only a small % of the folks who are ruining it, so YES, call them out, film, snap pics, warn them.....the decent folks will win when everyone starts calling out the troublemakers.

You are right about teaching the kid to get back, although sometimes its good to teach them to not just sit there and take it.  However, she is only 4.  She does not read the BBS nor is it very easy to explain to her about these people.  I agree with you in general terms though .

Your right Howitzer. I was angry and posted while still angry. For that I apologize. 24 hours later I have calmed down a bit. I could have said he was acting juvenile, but that just does not fit. I know some teens that play this sim and act more mature they ZAPP did. Would not be fair to them don’t you agree?

I am not “getting back at anyone”. Nor am I teaching my son any such actions or behavior. I don’t know how you arrived at that conclusion Howitzer. If you knew me you would not have posted that. My son and I have had a couple talks about this. He has not seen this thread and I have no intention to showing it to him. Frankly what I was hoping for was a public apology from ZAPP and show “that” to my son. After that my plan was the very next time we were all on (ZAPP, daddog, sondog) was for my son and I to go wing for ZAPP. My son thought that was a great idea. Yet we are missing a key element in this design, an apology from ZAPP.

I think there are many times it would be very appropriate to bring things to the attention of the community. Also there are times it is best to e-mail HTC and have them deal with it. I think this required both since there were many others on range channel that heard his garbage and how he reacted to me when I asked him to stop. Even if just one or two of those that were in range and heard the exchange see this thread they will sit up and take notice that players can’t get away with it all the time. There are limits to asinine behavior and many times the community will deal with their own. I think the majority have made it quite clear where they stand on such an issue.

I am not about vengeance, nor humiliating someone. I am about holding players accountable for their actions. You may not agree with my avenue in dealing with this, but we all have to make our own decisions. I have made mine and ZAPP has made his, to not apologize

Since my first post I have heard from HTC and they have dealt with this. I know that if it were to happen again I would venture a guess ZAPP would no longer be with us. I am satisfied. I am looking forward to flying in his range channel again sometime to see if he has learned his lesson like any good boy.
