Nobel peace laureate claims HIV deliberately created.

Kenyan ecologist Wangari Maathai, the first African woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize, today reiterated her claim that the AIDS virus was a deliberately created biological agent.

"Some say that AIDS came from the monkeys, and I doubt that because we have been living with monkeys (since) time immemorial, others say it was a curse from God, but I say it cannot be that.

"Us black people are dying more than any other people in this planet," Ms Maathai told a press conference in Nairobi a day after winning the prize for her work in human rights and reversing deforestation across Africa."

By saying the HIV virus was create in the west to delibrately kill Africans can we assume she meant "whites"?

The South African Apartheid based government did research bioweapons that would affect black people only. And who knows what weapons the US, Soviets etc devised during the cold war.

But she's not neccessarily making that link. It's true that Aids is practically an epidemic in Africa - sounds like she's using the spotlight that's on her to highlight a major issue.

That kind of attitude is EXACTLY why AIDS is so dangerous in africa.  And she isnt the only one, Thabo M'Beki the south african president doesnt belive that white man's aids drugs work on black africans...  How dumb can yoiu be, we are all humans and aids kills us all the same..  I'm really saddened by this atiitude that is coming out of africa about aids. It should be made possible to withdraw the nobel peace prize, if the person begins making stupid claims and trying to use the added fame for his/her benefit with the wrongful issue.

Or maybe shes just saying africans aren't human after all, since thats pretty much the only way you could've thought of creating a race targeted virus back then when the HIV popped up for the first time.

I don’t think that her belief that AIDS is a man made disease makes her a certified "crackpot".  I do think the idea that whites or man created AIDS to kill blacks is "crackpot".

However, the epidemic in Africa and with the impact it's had there's bound to be all sorts of conspiracy theories put forth. As such many may be "conditioned" by their circumstances to give these conspiracy theories more credibility then those of us looking in from the outside.

It happens here as well. Some folks will tell you that crack cocaine was invented by the CIA to harm blacks. In this day and age personal responsibility is lacking and there is a whole host of ready made excuses and reasons to cling to.

This applies to many issues particularly with in the "black world" but certainly not exclusively. They have been conditioned by their circumstances to except themselves as "victims". It’s easier for some of them to accept the idea that the white man gave them AIDS rather then to address their behavior and the possibility that AIDS has evolved naturally.

For example, it’s not their behavior that created the AIDS epidemic but evil white scientists. The CIA made crack to enslave blacks. Standardized tests are racist because blacks don't perform as well etc...

I can list all sorts of things like the above. From the ridiculously extreme to some of the more widely accepted. As “victims” they view themselves as deserving “justice”. Instead of the spread of AIDS being their responsibility it becomes ours.

The reason I made this post was because Ms. Maathai by winning the Nobel Peace Prize was given an opportunity to get her voice heard and to be a role model. By blaming "whitey" for AIDS she just echoes the same "black voices" that are quite prevalent within the "black world" and I was wondering if others thought the same way.
