the idea of this game is to capture bases and "win the war" and have fun while doing it.

leaving a CV up will end up with you losing a base.

this game isnt JUST about furballs. Thats DA

there is no arena for furballs only

if  there was more people online around say 120 or more then batfink prob wouldn't have even posted( then again he might have) but with only 60 online tops,  you are lucky to find ONE good furball or fight, and if he did actually try to ask nicely for his countrymen not to kill the resource ( CV ) so he could have planes to up then his countrymen should have a little more respect. BUT some say there is no respect, there is no honor, or any other type of ethics in AH or online....I am starting to have to agree with them on this more and more everyday

what  is one supposed to do, or a group even? when so many think one way and so many others think oppositely?  

what we need is something similar to what that other sim had,  you know 2 different types of Main arenas.......

who knows...........I have not flown since last friday and it is post like this, and post like  the "Sore Losers" thread that  make me decide if I even want to participate in this anymore, not just what has been said on the BBS but the way things happen in game, what is said and allowed to be said in game, and the over all  perception of the game in the way I view it...........I am pretty sure alot of others get the same vibe as well!  seems everyone is caught up in the ME,ME,ME/MY,MY,MY/I,I,I and forgot about the overall

if there had been hundreds online and DOGFIGHTS all over this would never have arisen. It was a purely selfish act of 'i dont know how to dogifht, so im gunna stop you ejoying your furball'

there was no danger of our 'base' being captured.

On the rare nights Im trying to capture a base, and even rarer, in a goon, screaming for the fighters there to spend their precious vulch ammo on the 2 bldgs left, and nobody will....its those fellas Im thinking of when I take down the FHs, even if someone says leave them up.  All kinds play this game..we just ended up at the same base is all.

I was vulching and some one stopped my easykill fest... evil strat nazi's...must post whine in forum threatening HT to redesign game so not to spoil my vulchfest.. If I whine enough Urchin will jump on the band wagon and really give those strat nazis a urchin style thrashing...

BTW lazs is a hell of alot better negotiator when it comes to the strat -vs- furball arguments...Urchin ruins any good arguments with his abrasive negative comments... everyone leaves the thread wondering if urchin is going to get thier IP and find out where they live, knock on the door with an automatic weapon of some sort and home invade for not being aggressive while flying and or being strat nazi..

Or, the idea is to create an environment where you get excellent ACES HIGH A2A and A2G combat (fighting against other players as the focus of the game) using base capture as a means to an end. That is really the history of these games, and it's the history HT and Pyro come from. You couldn't even win the war in AW (for most of the time at least)  by conquering the map. It was a points system calculated at the end of the month that drove direct A2A battles.

It's funny that HTC seems to spend far more time making sure the flight physics and individual flight models are accurate, adding new planes, addressing gunnery issues, etc. than they do working on the elements of your "idea" of the game. In your version it would even be better for business to go the full arcade route where the flight models are concerned. Accurate flight physics complicates and distracts from horde warrior. Just look at how popular console games are compared to PC games in general and hard-core simulations specifically. You don't need a simulation to have a fun "war winning" game.

Or maybe, IMO it's supposed to do both but is flawed to various degrees in various areas when you try to fill two contradictory roles with one game environment.

Am I the only person who sees the contradiction here?

The furballer always wants his furball to be uninterrupted by the strat game (another way of putting it is "the quakers don't want to be bothered by the toolshed killers")

Yet the furballer adamantly refuses to go furball somewhere else, such as the DA.  Why?  I have a theory.

Toolshed killers are relatively easy targets, and really build up the furballer's score.  The furballer isn't so much bothered by the PRESENCE of the toolshed killer as he is bothered by the SUCCESS of a toolshed killing spree.  If the toolshed killers would just play nice, dump their ord, try to fight it out froma position of disadvantage, get shot down, and not actually hit anything the furballers would be delighted.

Yeah, I've heard it already--shooting down toolshed killers is about as exciting as clubbing baby seals, these no skill suicide dweebs, the purity of aerial knighthood and manly air-to-air combat...yada, yada, yada.

DA - killshooter is off,  new flyers go in there and  shoot at each other on same side........also unless it has changed recently you could bomb stuff there but I am unsure of how long the damage lasted if at all

map is not set up for a good  2 or 3 way battle..........

if there was a "furball area" it would have no impact on anything else, and furball type players would not be killing the what you call it "toolshed killerS"

anyhow, if you could talk HTC into upgrading the DA map to include a nice little area which includes the 3 countrys and maybe 2 bases per side, alot would prob use it, regardless if any scores or stats were kept..........

my opinion is the ones complaining about the ones wanting this feature have never ever experienced anything like it before, or if they had they despise it because they do not feel like they will be able to compete........don't be shy jump in with both feet and master them virtual flying skillzz!

Your theory is all wrong. The DA doesnt provide for furballs. The DA (Dueling Arena) is for dueling 1 vs 1, 2 vs 2 etc.

Nowhere on the HTC homepage does it say the game is about *winning the war*. In fact, I cant even find where it mentions base capture.

In most instances the FH's dont need to come down to capture a base. Kill the acks, vh and cap it with fighters. Bring in bomber forms to drop the town and jabos to clean up what the buffs miss.

If you kill the FH's while I am helping cap the base, I fly home...PERIOD. I dont care how much or how little ammo I have left, I am leaving to find another fight. I dont care if there is only one building left up and I am the only fighter left with ammo and a goon is waiting, I am flying home. I play the game for the fights. I will help with base capture as long as the FH's arent dropped needlessly.

Strat guys.....the furballers WILL help you IF you leave the FH's up. You drop the FH's the furballers leave to find another fight. The game was designed with BOTH types of gameplay in mind.

Last night we rooks had a field extremely well cap'd. No cons were upping anymore. The town was full-up. A couple of heavies come in and start to attack the base, resources and hangers. On public channel I and several others ask them to stop. There is no danger of anyone upping from the base and still the town is up. I think just to spite us they continue to completely level the hangers and resources, not even touching the town. In the end I and most of the fighters left and the town was still standing. What did we accomplish? Nothing.

I think that is the point being missed here. If the base is cap'd, what is the point of hitting anything but the town and ack and maybe the VH if the gv's are getting out of hand? All it does is screw up the base for your own team when you capture it. Nothing like watching the base get decimated minutes before capturing it.

If the town is down and the situation is under control, DON'T dump your ord, go on to the next base where you can do some good.

It doesn't matter if you're a strat player or a furballer, the means to the end are the same. Do whatever it takes to suppress the enemies long enough to capture the base. Nothing more, nothing less.

Good post g00b, I agree with that. What is the point of leveling a base you want to capture? Imo it's best to take the base as intact as possible. When you take a base intact it allows the offensive to continue to the next base w/o pause. A base that is wrecked completely is of no use whatsoever to your team.

Batfink is missing a couple important facts re. what happened.  T'was down on A55 in the SW corner of trinity IIRC, and to the west of a55 'bout 4 sectors out we had hidden the cv from the much talked about, and dreded p49.

Then nme had TWO cv's off a55.  one in close, and one 'bout a sector ish out.  Killing the close cv DID stop the immediate furball, but the 2nd cv WAS still there, and they were upin' from it trying to kill cv48 (the nme had controll of p49)  

Sure the immediate fight was at 55 was done, BUT there were 'bout 5-6 guys in the air hitting the hidden (not so well hidden, some idiot actually used a spy to find it) cv.

I dunno.  I watched the whole scene unfold on the txt buffer.  Bat pretty much launched into the personal attacks/whines from the get go, and the two guys he was arguin' w/ were pretty cruddy 'bout BF wanting to furball.  IMHO the guy killing that nme cv COULD have killed the OTHER one, thus saving our not so well hidden cv.

Ehhh..... stupid thing to argue about anyway....

Tell me one "furballer" who plays for 'score'. Tell me one "furballer" who even has a decent 'score'. We couldn't care less about scores. We like the thrill of the fight, nothing else.
