The reason they've been looking at their eye candy, is because they've had the same stuff since 1999. It's the natural evolution of games, people will want better eye candy when the hardware around is capable of doing it. Even with the best eye candy in the world, I'm not coming back to AH2 until they get the ToD thing moving. Air quake n00b fests aren't fun for me, I'd rather play Counter Strike.

This is hardly the end of the Il2 series or of Maddox's upcomming BoB series. It may be the end of UBI, but they don't own Maddox Games - they just publish and distribute them for now.

I don't think you understand the difference between a company that publishes and distributes a game vs. the company that makes a game.

Il-2 is NOT a pure competitor.

Its actually a coopetition. What ever interest Il-2 generates for the genre generates interest for AH as well. Though inorder for players that found interest to get interest in AH it needs better graphics. Thats what we are getting.

Playing Il-2 online and AH2 is two different games and both games need each other, and the other players on the market, to create attention around the genre.

wouldnt that all depend on how many people own the other 20.1%?

If EA is the larset single shareholder wouldnt that make them the controling stockholder?
Or would that have to be over 50%?

Sad to see Il-2 get killed, it will. It doesnt fit EA´s portfolio.

EA is since long boycoted by me. I dont buy any EA products.

As it is by me also.
While I have several EA products.
I didnt and wont plunk down my money for em.

I remember about a year ago I got a friendly Email from EA offering me something or other.

My reply  was simple and directly to the point.

"Remember a game called Airwarrior?"
"Remeber Dec 7th?"
"I do.  And now you can all go F*** yourselves"

Wasnt just what they did. But the way they went about doing it.

From what Oleg said on Russian boards - Russian releases by 1C are unprofitable, and it's a very soft term.

Jewel case with one game CD sells here for less then 100 rubles, 2xCD - 200, etc. Only maniacs like me buy boxed versions. I bought IL-2 when it was released, for 700+ rubles, box including funny booklets like "Introduction to air combat by Oleg Maddox" ;) and a good T-shirt. The game lasted for about 3 hours on my HDD, I couldn't tolerate the view system :(

Russian releases can't give you reasonable money for a game developed only for this market, only official releases of translated bestsellers like Doom-3 are profitable. Flightsims are too far from teenage mainstream.

JFYI: 1C is almost a monopolist on Russian accounting/business software market. It's their main business, and this gaming projects are only a part of a "software supermarket" programm.

Oleg had special resons to turn to 1C to complete an IL-2 project. It happened in early-99, after a 1998 "crisis" in Russia.

EA also bought out the ESPN Games company that was producing NFL2K, NBA2K, NHL2K, etc. Damn shame, now I'm stuck with Madden and chit.

Soooooo.............lets see.................

20.1 + 19.9 = 40 right?  What exactly is the point you are trying to make with this math?  Or is it that you want to say "wouldnt that all depend on how many people own the other 80.1%"?

Ubisoft would hold the largest stake if they still have 49.9% of their shares. Unless they've sold all fo that (unlikely) to everyone it would not make EA the controlling shareholder. But, EA most likely holds the second largest stake and it would give them some power within the company. This would not give them power of the company, but they would have say on marketing decisions as well as production.

I like the NCAA titles, never been a big fan of Madden though.

Kinda wierd considering the NCAA title is basically Madden but tuned slightly different, and with college teams.

I chalk it up to not liking pro sports in general.
