America VS the world
« on: January 05, 2005, 11:42:08 AM »
ok, so why do Americans all think the world hates America so much?

its getting kinda stoopid recently.

seems funny that Americans cant take a bad word said to them, yet regularly tell the rest of us how pathetic we are?

If you ask me, which you wont because im not american, the world is heading for a major disaster.

If  America wants war with Europe, or Europe with America, then lets get it overwith and save my children the trouble. :lol

Personally i dont view nations as any different from each other, i judge the individual as i meet him/her. I certainly dont have any problem with the USA apart from the fact that it seems ok to slam us but we cant slam you.

There is going to be a nasty war in the next 50-100 years, we all know it and no one can stop it.

I'm moving to hawaii to stay with XtrmeJ until it all blows over and once again the world realises war is stoopid.

but which side of the fence will YOU be standing on when (not 'if') it blows?

er...pick almost any one of the threads in this forum and suck up the anti-Euro or anti-USA feelings.

Guns seem to dominate at the moment.

No NO no NO nO!

I love America, alot of my family live there.

I just hate seeing my own country slammed into the ground for any number of things, yet the slightest insult to my chums accross the pond is jumped on and thrown right back 100 fold.

I just want world peace, but thats not likely in my lifetime.

this thread was more an oppertunity to show our views, not flame anyone and everything.

I dont think the world hates Americans.  I think many people in many countries have an opinion that the average American is arrogant, rude, etc.

I also think that everyone everywhere has misconceptions about anyone who is "foriegn" based on stereotypes and misinformation.  This includes Americans.

You gonna tell me you've never heard anyone on your side of the pond tell a French joke?  Polish jokes?  Ever heard anyone make fun of, or say anything stereotypical about an Irishman?

You are basing your idea of what ideas "Americans" hold by the people you see posting on this BBS.  I would venture to say, this BBS is NOT exactly representative of the average American.  Some of the posters on here are still young enough they havent had time to develop a real opinion on how to wipe their butts properly.  I realize its hard to do when the people you are trading comments and sometimes insults with every day are nameless, faceless posters on a bulletin board, but try to step back and look at it objectively.  If you are still angry, ask Furby to share his meds with you.

Lol SA2.

good points.

I must stress that i am in no way angry.

just wondering how people feel about this growing divide between the greatest nation on earth and the rest of us.

its bad enough having brown teeth without someone ripping the piss out of your laws also. :lol

i realise that this board is less than a decent representation of any nation but i also realise that it is all we have, so lets work with what we've got.

Anyhow, its easy for you to be chilled out, you live in paradise you bastage ;)

I don't hate the rest of the world.  I dislike it when foreigners seem to feel it is their civic duty to inform me of my country's shortcomings at every opportunity.  Unfortunately, that includes at least 50% of the non-US posters on this board.

Basically you're asking: "Why do you guys always react the same way whenever we criticize you?"

I hear ya man...same position here, but I am also teetering on Ameristalker status at times...not because I am, but because I have made critical comments on occassion.  Anytime you do so here the big BRAND comes out...red hot and ready to burn.  ;)

Shack.
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen!

It's just good old fashioned nationalism, the modern version of tribalism. It's instinct. Don't worry about it.

EVERYONE thinks their team is the best and the others suck. If they didn't, there would be something seriously wrong.

Cultivate personal friendships and laugh at the nationalist jibes. You will be liked and respected for it, and you will like and respect others for doing it for you. Everything else is just a bunch of bs.
