I do exactly the same... if I see a 51 running away on fire, I could care less. If I'm in a knife fight with a burning zeke, I will take that shot since he can easily convert to my 6.

I do take shots at other people kills in one instance; ditching. If I see anyone ditching (purposefully or not) I will do my best to prevent that from happening. I'm not a big fan of the ditch code, and I will always congratulate a comrade who 'steals' a kill from me by preventing a ditch of an enemy.

That's the spirit Cporky, I remember Levi laughing as I broke off from a fight exposing myself to gun & cannon only to pop what would have been a successful ditch. I get that warm & fuzzy feeling just typing about it :D

A reprimand on range-vox usually works.

Just a nice polite reminder like this:

"XXXX did you realize it's common courtesy to let an obviously diabled aircraft hit the ground, rather than trying to steal someones kill?"

Also remember that the kill-stealers are usually newbies. They got's ta get a kill somehow.

I actually get more irratated with the guys that come in and ruin a nice 1 v 1.

I probably ruin 1v1s at times. I try not to jump in all the time... so I watch a 1v1... if my countryman is chasing, I'll try to keep an eye out or ask if I remember. If there's something on his 6, I won't assume he can reverse and always jump in where I can.

Probably have ticked off people ruining 1v1s, but I'm sure I've saved a pilot or two too.

Aw, heck, kill-stealing makes flying with squaddies even more fun.  The only thing better than stealing a squaddie's kill is to have him die by killshooter.

Of course, the squaddie needs to also have a warped sense of humor, too.

AWWsky, wanna wing up?

Spot I'll take you up on your "guarantee".

Aircraft: P-51D
Fuel: 25%
Max initial engagement alt: 12k
Initial merge: Cold
Maximum Total Engagements: 3
Minimum Total Engagements: 1

Stakes are based on the absolute guarantee that Spot has given previously that he will fly circles around me.

Spots Stakes: Spot must survive all three engagements. Any failure to do so will immediately render the match over. If Spot fails to survive any one of these engagements Spot will move along and find himself another home.

My Stakes: None considering I don't go around making absolute guarantees.

So is this a lifetime "guarantee" or is it a limited "guarantee"?

You know i could see Cobra talkin all that smack if him and spot were gonna take P-40 B's up in the DA,all that chump ever fly's is a Mustang. Why don,t you fly somethin that takes a little skill!

And as far as jumpin in on a 1 on 1 in the MA or any time for that matter,i will jump in but just to help the squaddie break down the other planes E.

Here is a suggestion.  Fly cannon equipped planes.  You stand a much greater chance of not getting a kill stolen when firing 20mm vs 50's.

Myself, I typically fly planes with 6-50's and yes I do get kills 'stolen'.  Sometimes I 'steal' a kill.  I attribute getting kills stolen as much to my SA as the other player.  Horde flying is when  I get kills stolen or have an opportunity to steal a kill.

The current damage model is about how many hits you put into the plane.  Sometimes you can put 50 rounds into a plane and not damage that planes ability to fly.  Bombers are a good example.  One cannon round in the right place and the guy who just put 50 bullet holes gets the kill.

That's the way the game is played.

Regards,

Malta

p.s. I don't rely on six calls in the MA either.  90% are too late due to lag and if I don't see the plane, a six call normally doesn't help.  About 5% of the six calls I get help.  The other 5% are nuisance calls that require a squelch.  Not to discourage the practice, and I still try to give them out, but  that's the way the game works.  It's a bit eerie, but after a while you know when someone is on your six.  The best use of six calls imo is when the (typically) FW190  is screaming in at 400ias trying to cherry pick someone on a climb out.  I like giving six calls to spoil that shot!

The P-51 is my normal ride. Though it is the P-51B not D model. This tour I have been in the D model cuz we have two newbies that are learning. My XO and I want everyone on the same page on nights were all on so I am in the D.

That being said if he wanted to fly the P-40 I am right at home at that plane. We flew the P-40s all the time in the CT when I was with the 325th. So I dont think it would be a problem. On top of that I am trying to learn the Jugs and the lightings. The jugs I think I have figured out. But I am starting to think the P-38 is the perverbal rubix cube of AH.

This is another one of those thorny issues where people keep talking past one another.  Is a Check 6 call a responsibility or a bonus?  Should we get mad if someone fails to check our six?  At whom she we get angry?

Here's how I see it.  I am not your SA.  You are not my SA.  I appreciate any and all Check 6 calls, but I do not expect them.  By the same token, I attempt to give Check 6 calls whenever possible, but I cannot always do that as well or as frequently as I'd like.  Don't get mad at me if you die because I didn't alert you to the enemy who was clearly sneaking up on you; get mad at yourself for a lapse in SA.

:aok

Oh, and kill stealing is hilarious!
