talking politics except for how it affects personal freedom is silly... you say I don't care about how seatbelts or helmets effect your premiums for instance? I say it is a matter of personal freedom not just for me but for everyone. Have your premiums gone up or down since seat belt and helmet laws for instance?

they will screw you no matter what... why give em power over your lifestyle too? If the insurance company wants to charge me more for not wearing a helmet that is fine with me. this seems silly tho in light of the fact that I dropped the medical portion of my insurance at my agents suggestion since I have good personal coverage.

as for you... I think that liz has pretty much hit it... you seem to lack the courage or stamina to defend "your" ideas which I believe are simply a conglomerate of what you think makes you the most "with it" and "happening" mixed with some healthy distrust of government. I think that you are in a transitional stage... not yet ready to let go of the group you hang with but unwilling to simply accept their dogma. Sooo... you come here to get hammered.

I don't mind a decent "hammering." It's interesting. I don't take anything personally.

As for "lacking the courage or stamina to defend my ideas", I would say that you don't appreciate the imbalance factor. Often times, all too often, it is simply my own self having to read, digest, and respond to 3+ people within a snap. All too often, I read "where'd you go?" when I'm actually responding to the guy two guys before him.

And often times... I'm pretty much done with it.

As for your "with it" comments (not new), it comes only from your sense of not being with it. I hold my political beliefs quite dearly. They have nothing to do with trend.

naaa... I understand that.. believe it or not I have been in that position. Hard to believe I know but..

naa.. what I am talking about is that when confronted with evidence you flat out discount it with some really offhand remark like you will do your own study or some such .

I honestly think that you are in a transitional change and are using this board to help form your opinions. My guess is that you aren't getting much variety in thinking with the people you are around.

The basis of this thread, as I read it, is a broad explanation of various posters' moral and or political views. That's it in a nutshell. Wonderfully worded, well thought out, coherent to the nth degree...but not really saying much other than your own deep thoughts about others. And that alone scares the bejesus outta me. It's all good though, if a little freaky.

Ok it's five in the morning near the end of the night shift. So my head is not necessarlily in gear. But here goes.

Politics does effect all of us whether we are interested in it or not. People who don't realise that are simply carried on the tide. Being interested in it gives the impression we can influence politics in some small way. As someone wise once said 'All politics is local'.
We all have our opinions and we know we are right, if not right then on the right track. The we come to this BB and see people expressing opinions which are clearly completely wrong. So we butt in and try to correct their reasoning. Surprisingly they argue instead of agreeing but we plough on regardless hoping to change someone's opinion to match ours. It never works because they read what they think you meant and throw it back at you in a corrupted form. So you end trying to explain what you originally said but they persist in believing what they think you said...........

As I said it's been a long night.

Maybe we just like arguing.

I like your mini analysis of certain characters on this bulletin board. It 's revealing about you as much as it it about them. But that is an example of completely misreading you intent in putting pixel to paper like Lizking did. I'll bet they'll love reading about themselves.

I hope that all makes sense.

I surely am in a transitional stage, as I hope to be every day throughout my life. To suggest that it is simply a going from one thing to another, and then that's it, is not really what I'm about.

I do use the board to help form my opinions. I use everything to to help inform my opinions. What of it?

I don't really talk politics with my friends.

I know how tempting it is to believe that. And the reasons for just accepting that. But I haven't taken that leap. I know bad men exist. But I also know that a commitment to public life is a good thing. Despite the bad apples, despite some being misguided, I continue to believe that for many, it at least starts from a desire to do good. I encourage that, and remain unwilling to paint them all with the same brush.

and... as I have said.. I only look at politics as they apply to personal freedom... mine or anyone elses. I have defended others personal freedoms here even when I have no interest in what they do and.... what they do may even cost me some.

that is my "transitional" my basic belief is that government is evil and personal freedom is the holy grail but I will transition my beliefs on what or what is not personal freedom based on learning about each case as it comes up.

you say you don't talk politics with your friends? I think you spoke to rapidly. if you think about it... political comments are constant amoung all groups.. to say that you don't talk politics it to admit that you are all in such agreement that you don't even notice.
