Darn! How could I have forgotten "Caligula" Ranks right up there with "El Topo" and the Ilsa series.   ;) (definitely when the wife ain't looking buys)
I have 1141 titles on 4 different media types. (and I ain't gunna list em all but I will mention "Billy Jack" and "Raging Bull")
I would like to see nearly 300 of them enhanced to the HDTV standard ... Imagine the Chariot race, the slo-mo ending to Bonnie and Clyde, or Tora Tora Tora in HDTV effect ... Think I'll go pop in a movie.   :)
There are also some very good TV series that are worth owning "Hill Street Blues" "China Beach" "Centennial" and a host of others.

Read the book, went see the movie... liked both, and I thought the concessions Ann Druyan had to make in order to make a Hollywood flick were minimal.

Contact is pure Science-Sociology-Fiction, and it stands among my favourites of all time.

Cyrano, ya know what pissed me off most about Contact? Zemeckis playing computer tricks to put Bill Clinton in the movie. It added nothing to the movie other than proving that he had some fine computers and a big budget.

If you like that one you will prolly like "a Boy and His Dog", early Don Johnson effort of a similar grain.

Hmmm I don't know if that's the case Sandman, Zemeckis did the same with Forrest Gump, and I don't think he did it to show off... I think that real images in the movie add to the feeling of it being real (or that it could actually happen), and that is capital in a movie like Contact (or Forrest Gump).

He also hired Alan Silvestri to do the Soundtrack, so I think it's more a director's footprint than a mere technical showoff... that's my pov, at least.

I know I loved it... excellent performances by Jodie Foster, James Woods (man u gotta love his part in the movie), or Tom Skerrit... but since it was a Sci-fi movie, no oscars for it. Pity.

Now if someone dared to take some Arthur C. Clarke novels to the big screen... Songs from Distant Earth anyone?

On the comedy side I miss all of Marx Brothers, and, especially Ernst Lubistch's To Be or not To Be   :D
