It's a good read. The short version is, "Don't count on the Republicans losing all that much ground in the future."

I think the Democrats are going to have to completely rebuild themselves in a new image.  The Republicans have beat them at their own game.  They've created a package that has an incredibly strong appeal to stupid people.  Big-spending socialism, nationalism, militarism, and a healthy dose of jebus.  Joe Sixpack eats it up.  Not sure what the Democrats can do.  Hopefully it will be an actual alternative instead of the crap they have given us for the last 70 years.  Until then, VFTR.

The Democrats haven't offered any ideas.  Their underlying goal has been to obstruct Bush at any and all steps they can.  Whether or not you like Bush, this level of obstructionism has backfired on them.

I can respect people who disagree with my views.  That's fine.  But if you dont bring any other ideas to the table, yet make it your goal to block and play shenanigans, that gets old.

Now boys... don't go behaving like cultural elites!

;)
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen!

There's plenty wrong with the Democrats, but this guy is getting just a little carried away:

Quote
The problem with that strategy is that, yes, admittedly, the president is a national disgrace, but that also reflects badly on the nation that twice elected him, so a large fraction of patriotic Americans don’t want to hear it.

Whenever I hear that my jaw just drops in amazement. Because no, the "nation" didn't elect him. 51% of the nation elected him. In fact, more of the nation voted to elect Gore the 1st time around.

So if Democrats are in such rough shape, what does that say about the Republicans? Were they in rougher shape than the Democrats only 6 years ago? Were they only 3% not in as rough a shape two years ago?

How about today, when Bush is at 35% approval, and the Democrats can come extremely close to taking over both houses of Congress in Novemeber? Who's in rough shape? We're generally talking a couple of percentage points either way at most.

So it's entirely ridiculous. They've both got serious problems.

.... And I have to say that my biggest problem with the Democrats is their willingness to sit there and just eat this kinda garbage instead of standing up and calling BS on the whole lot of it.

What's wrong with the Democrats?  Theirs is the party of dependency, cultural and intellectual elitism, disdain for fly-over-land, drastic drawdowns of military strength, and a new isolationism.

And those are their GOOD points.

The words:  Bush, Cheny, Rummy, Fascism, Neo-con, war-for-oil, ect tend to lose their luster when you froth at the mouth while saying them.

Again being against Bush is not a platform and that has been the democrats strategy for the last 5 years.  It has yet to work but of course instead of trying to apeal to middle America, wich doesn't like to see protesters burning the flag and putting nazi symbols on the face of Bush, what do the democrats do?  They put Howard Dean in charge of the DNC.  Instead of thinking we are too far left they decide to go MORE left.  Even still.....no platform just more Bush Derangment syndrome.

Uhm - The Democrats have a platform - are you kidding me? Do you think that they go around just saying "Bush is bad?"

Dial in the sweeping and patently absurd rhetoric, please.

There's nothing in anything that you just said that you can actually back up with fact other than the appointment of Dean to the DNC.

And this thread is (and was bound to) turn into some blank canvass where all the dutiful Republicans can impress eachother with their ability to recall that which has been pounded into their heads on the drive home for the last ten years.

Kudos. Mighty impressive.

But I'd rather stick to some facts - and if the grip is even tenuous it'd still be better than this.

Guns, you need to check out the Sunday morning "Talking Heads". FTN, MTP, TW and McLachlin. There is more than you think being discussed.

Oh, The Daily Show and Colbert Report will work as a substitute.;)
My mind is a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives.
Stay thirsty my friends.
