Actually,

A fighter town is not the same as a dueling arena.  I guess that's a subtle point.
The dueling arena fields are generally too far away from each other and GV's and bombers are disabled.  Also, vulching is very much allowed.

There have been a couple of occasions where enough people were in the DA to have some dogfighting, generally whole squads at a time.  However, for the most part the DA is empty.  There's no score kept there either.

Having an arena dedicated to nothing but fighting and no ability to destroy resources is a bit abstract.  I've seen that sort of thing before, and enjoyed it.  It's not for everyone.  Furballing types are the ones who would like it the most although I bet people in bombers and GV's could have some fun too.

And all along, you thought I was joking!  I was joking wasn't I?

Regards,

Malta

The increase in airfield AK does not bother me.  Taking enemy airfields will be more difficult, true, however, defending friendly airfields will be easier.  I have an older PC and I am not suffering frame rate issues, but I do not refute others claims that they are having frame rate issues.

However, other planned changes which have yet to be implemented, but are planned, do concern me a great deal.   I would caution Hi Tech to speak to his paying customer base, and not simply go on the opinions expressed here in a very biased forum community.

This is the most positive change to happen in this game for years.

Last night in the orange arena I saw dozens of great small fights between bases, the action was awesome. Everytime the fight would move to one base, the attackers would get shredded by the ack and the defenders would be able to get back up and the action would move between the bases again.

THANK YOU HTC!!

After another day, I am starting to change my mind about the murderous ack.

It is creating a furball arena for the few, ah well

For the few?  What's the matter, has it scared you back into the tower?

Are only us mean furballers still taking to the skies?

i created a few ack clearing missions today.... was relatively easly with 8 p38s and rockets. shame the P38 always gets PW first.

While I do agree with most on the changes of adding more ack guns to the fields and towns for protection.

I would still like to see the addition of multi-barreled AA guns from the WWII era. Yes, it is nice to hop in one of the manned acks at a base, however it is still a single barrel, slow firing gun. All the planes in the game have mutiple barrels of 20mm, .50cal, 37mm, 30mm, rockets and bombs.

We have to shoot back with a single barrel weapon that is stationary, while they blaze away with multiple barrels and ord.
On top of that, to hit a bomber group with a 37mm gun is virtually useless, they just dont have the reach or the punch.
This (IMO) is where the Flak36 and 5" guns come into play.  I believe they would make a great addition to the game and offer some defense against bombers and such.

my 2 cents

Nice changes.

More diversity in manned guns would be interesting (ala WW2 online).  Especially this one:

I do think the new ack settings are a lot more realistic.  Anyone who has ever read of the exploits of pilots attacking German airfields in the face of blazing ack guns, ack towers, and 88s realizes how dangerous a job it really was.  The new ack settings recreate that "anus pucker factor" a whole lot better.

I would've liked to see a couple of 88s or 5" mannable ack guns on land bases too, but I'll take what I can get.  The new ack settings make the single base porker a whole lot more rare (which IMHO is a good thing), and once people adjust their tactics a bit, base taking should resume.  The horde is definitely not stopped by this change - those of us in large squads merely need to adjust our  mission planning to reflect the new threats.

Base vulching and porking has become a lot more difficult, and that really can't be a bad thing in the long run.

Exactly, I have read alot of books and own alot of historical videos on the subject with many anecdotal accounts. Attacking a target such as an airfield with a heavy concentration of AA was a loathesome task. Faaar more pilots died doing this than engaging other air superiority fighters. Not one pilot wasn't puckering his sphicter and gritting his teeth when he went for a ground attack run on an airfield. previously in AH, airfield static defense was a mild nuisance easily shrugged off by a 110 or other heavy fighter, now it's a serious threat to personal safety as it should be...
