If you dont have one. Get one

Big difference from flying with only a stick and keyboard.

That is all
Death is no easy answer
For those who wish to know
Ask those who have been before you
What fate the future holds
It ain't pretty

I can understand flying without a rudder, as some joysticks don't have that. I can't understand, however, flying without a throttle. Most joysticks have them built onto the stick, and many have them as separate units.

I'd be very curious to see what kind of stick you were using that had no throttle built into it.

I've been following your other thread as I've been in the same boat of needing to upgrade for years. Right now I'm trying to decide, if I can get one piece (for the time being) should it be a set of pedals, new stick, or a throttle unit?

The current stick I have is very limited (only four buttons, 4 way hat) but it does have a throttle wheel. So my biggest issue probably is using the keyboard for both rudder and my up/diagonal views. Which pedals could eliminate. But a throttle unit could also give me more buttons, an 8 way hat, and reduce the number of functions I use my keyboard for.

You have your rudder set to three buttons on the throttle? How do you find this setup?

If your stick is that old get a 4-axis stick with more buttons. That will also give you rudder (twist) axis.

Check out the Saitek Cyborg Evo.

Saitek.....ST290 Pro..........economical,   6 programmable buttons, twisty stick, 8 hat, throttle built in.  Wally World for about $20.

or

CH throttle, 3 hat switches, many more programmable buttons, keep your stick.  $150.  Get all set up, less dependence on keyboard.

Ultimately I'm going to get the full CH setup, I just don't want to wait for my next paycheck heh. So the debate is really over which unit to buy first... :D I think I can make due with the stick a little while longer, but it's a toss up between the throttle or the pedals. Which is why I'm curious how he finds his rudder control.

throttle definately.

I started with a Saitek 290, bought the CH throttle, then the pedals, then the stick, after seeking the advice of several vets on here.

Stop worrying about the throttle -- what some players REALLY need is a good CHOKE
