I had no problems with the terrain being too dark. No problem at all. That leads me to think the problem is settings on some machines. It is darker than before in colour terms but more realistic (I think). The trees are superb and I just flew NOE right down in the weeds slipping in between the trees with no problem. Then got chased on the deck by a crowd of marauding rooks and for the first time ever didn't fly into the ground. Got shot down all the same.
I do agree that at altitude it all looked a little bland but at altitude who needs detail? Also you do have to be quite low sometimes to see the contouring and the ground detail lacks something. Perhaps the new trees meant a slight loss elsewhere? However when it comes to contouring, in real life only the biggest hills stand out at even quite low altitudes. It is realistic for the countryside to appear flatter from altitude. If you get to fly in a real aircraft it is quite noticeable.
I do like the new terrain, even the quirky windmills and the little villages and farms. One odd thing though as I drove into one village, there was a little wooden wagon in the yard. It stopped my mighty Sherman dead in it's tracks! Surely some mistake?
I also think the terrain is more 'European' in looks which after all is where all the action happened. The previous terrain looked a lot like parts of the USA. To me it looks like part of the low countries or Northern Germany now. which is good.
No I don't want the terrain changed, improved yes, perhaps a tad more contrast to aid depth perception in the grassy areas.
