Im assuming a 22 using rat shot is what I want. Any recommendations for the brand of revolver to look for?

They make a 22 round with very small shot. You have to get close, as they are not very accurate.

But a stick, broom handle, garden hoe work best. Unless you are scared of snakes. :D

My wife is 4-0 against snakes in the yard with a hoe. We've come across four snakes this year while working in the yard, before I can determine if they are poisonous or not........ THUNK!!!  Judy whacks them in half with the hoe. The last time it happened I said " Hey baby don't do that so quick. Let me determine if it's a good snake".

"It's a good snake now" she said." :lol

Last Saturday I went out to the shed to get birdseed for the feeders. The shed was full of mice who had torn into the bird seed bag. I'm hiding the hoe.:aok

The first one was a Copperhead, a good kill IMO.

The last three have just been what people call gopher snakes around here. Nonpoisonous rodent eaters. We've had a lot of rain this Spring and  Summer, it's driving them out more.

Silat, I don't know if this is actually works or if it's just old legend. My father taught me while hunting as a boy. If you have a rifle and stick it out towards the snake. The snake will raise it's head right in front of the barrel as if to strike. making your shot easier. I never tried it. I rather shoot at one with a rifle or shotgun than get close with a pistol though. Espeically if your talking rattlesnakes, or cottonmouths.

Why do you want to kill snakes?

Most people who get bitten by snakes are people who are trying to kill them. But since you're in portland oregon that's not really an issue.
