Ok, these are just my opinions, your mileage may indeed vary (and you have every right to do so).
People have an unreasonable fear of snakes. Yes, venomous snakes can be dangerous, so can non-venomous snakes (anaconda especially). I treat snakes with respect, stay away from then as much as possible but dont fear them. I can understand why other people prefer to take no chances (hence boom = good snake), but prefer not to kill them unless I really really have to........which, so far, hasn't been required. As stated earlier in another thread, my FIL lives in CA, in the Mojave desert. We see rattlers, constrictors with regularity. He has dogs in the yard, who will bark at the rattlers, but have learnt not to approach them. We then go out, and either "chase" the snake off, or pin his head with a y shaped stick, grab him and invite it to leave the yard (normal drop off point is in a large brush pile away from the house. In the yard, there live 3 constrictors, not super large, not super small......no rodents in the yard tho. There are also scorpions, tarantula's etc wandering around at night. Anyway, I digress, snakes seem to bring out some sort of fear syndrome in a lot of people, which, in truth, isnt a bad thing, as it stops them getting bitten for mishandling etc. Mac is to an extent right, as are the other posters in this thread. Everyone has their own ways of dealing with snakes, who is to say which is the right one, and which is wrong? Everyone is tinged with different experiences etc, so points of view will always differ (which, imo, is a good thing, otherwise life would get very boring!!).
