Ok, these are just my opinions, your mileage may indeed vary (and you have every right to do so).

People have an unreasonable fear of snakes. Yes, venomous snakes can be dangerous, so can non-venomous snakes (anaconda especially). I treat snakes with respect, stay away from then as much as possible but dont fear them. I can understand why other people prefer to take no chances (hence boom = good snake), but prefer not to kill them unless I really really have to........which, so far, hasn't been required. As stated earlier in another thread, my FIL lives in CA, in the Mojave desert. We see rattlers, constrictors with regularity. He has dogs in the yard, who will bark at the rattlers, but have learnt not to approach them. We then go out, and either "chase" the snake off, or pin his head with a y shaped stick, grab him and invite it to leave the yard (normal drop off point is in a large brush pile away from the house. In the yard, there live 3 constrictors, not super large, not super small......no rodents in the yard tho. There are also scorpions, tarantula's etc wandering around at night. Anyway, I digress, snakes seem to bring out some sort of fear syndrome in a lot of people, which, in truth, isnt a bad thing, as it stops them getting bitten for mishandling etc. Mac is to an extent right, as are the other posters in this thread.  Everyone has their own ways of dealing with snakes, who is to say which is the right one, and which is wrong? Everyone is tinged with different experiences etc, so points of view will always differ (which, imo, is a good thing, otherwise life would get very boring!!).

sheesh.. because the venom from snakes is only extremely painful and you only come close to dying most of the time and..  if you are constantly on the watch and you are a nature guide and spend all your time looking out for and identifying and running away from... snakes.

they are ok?

gpwurzel.. whos place are you throwing those snakes to?  Not mine I hope.   If you kill it then it can't come back and even better.. it can't make more poisonous little vipers.

Nope, my FIL lives in the middle of nowhere, and I mean the middle of nowhere. The brush pile is around 500 yards from his house, and his nearest neighbour is a good mile or 2 away. We release them there as they have some cover than can go into. Its not that often they come into the yard, but my wife and I see them regularly when driving out to his place (when on vacation). As I said Laz, everyone views things differently, and have different experiences. My only phobia for instance, is of Hairdressers, ......bizarrely........I have no idea why, but I cant stand getting my hair cut, so its probably a good thing that I dont have much left....:lol

For Lazs2: You're supposed to be constantly watching out, I've never seen a man survive for very long who wasn't. You never know what's around the next bend, it's best to be cautious and always alert. You live longer that way.

For Gpwurzel: That's one of the better posts I've seen on here. It is simple and straight forward, and well written.

Yep... I would agree but.. no snakes.. one less thing to distract me.

you can't win..  I have admitted that the ugly creepy things can live in enclosed habitats and labs.   If they have any worth then let the scientists find it.

They are obsolete... replaced at the only job they do well by domestic and feral cats who do it ten times better and with a fraction of the risk to humans..  you won't step on a poisonous cat by mistake... you won't even be able to sneak up on a cat.

I would like to have some of the original bloodline cats from around the area that you reside in to use for breeding stock in an attempt to produce a colony of attack cats for commercial and business purposes.
I figure considering the difference in food intake of the average cat in comparison to Dobies and Rotts I could offer security and guard services to business owners in my area at a considerable savings and just might corner the market for after hours guard services and such.

I'm not sure; a lot of Chinese restaurants used to serve them and people liked it. The government eventually cracked down on it but with the proper stir fry technique...........

The heck he let me. Animals don't let you just sneak up on them. He didn't know I was there, till I grabbed hold of him, then he started clawing and biting, but I got him in the box, and took him down the road a few miles, and then let him out.

Worthless? The venom has been found to contain cures for illnesses from cancer to diabetes, and more. Obsolete? They've been around longer than cats, and they still do a better job. At least they eat most of what they catch. Creepy? Only if you think that. I don't see anything creepy aboot them. Most people don't. They aren't slimy, they don't carry many diseases, they control the rodent and other pest populations, and they don't make any noise. They can see very well in the dark, they can see heat, and they have very good smell.

Mr kitty was probably sleeping(or not really giving a dam about you approaching).

you grab Mr kitty

Mr kitty bites and claws

sounds like you made Mr. kitty mad and he told you to in his way to leave him alone..

good job Mr.Kitty! :D :aok

and BTW,snakes have a habit of thinking where ever they are is there place, then if you try to get them out..they bite..

so BOOM...Good Snake :furious

He sure wasn't sleeping. He was hunting something else. He knew I was after him, but he didn't know I was around at the time. The way to sneak up on anything is to be silent, slow, and use cover. Ask any indian.

So do cats. In fact, I've never seen a snake that didn't try escaping before defending itself. Cats will just claw you when you reach down towards them, or bite. They don't always try to run.
