Alskahawk, AH is pretty fun for us former Air Warriors.  The gunnery takes a while to get used to (as it is more realistic), but you'll get the hang of the rest of it quickly enough.  I think you'll like it!

Ya, I like this better than I have any game since Airwarrior. Has lot of the same attributes that airwarrior had. Good community, challenging yet achievable learning curve. Fly relaxed realism with stall limiter on or move up to full realism, all in same arena.

I started out in Fighter Ops (warbirds light) back in -95. Went on to Dawn of Aces and finally Aces High during beta tests. Been around ever since then on and off. As for the longtimers... 20% maybe...

a bunch of Amiga sims (JimmyC will remember ;) ) and then on Mac:

91 Hellcats Over The Pacific - great fun
93 FA-18 Hornet - head to head games over a modem link, how cool was that! learnt missile defence (also works well against 262s :D )
94 Flying Nightmares - my fav offline sim: Harriers, Carriers & pure class :aok

then didnt touch a joystick until AHII tour 91
71 (Eagle) Squadron

What most of us want to do is simply shoot stuff and look good doing it - Chilli

Well I started with this flight sim in the late 99's. I've flown untill 2007 (or was it 2006?) untill the H2H came offline.
A pity really, I had some good times playing AH! Almost 8 years of fun down the drain...

Political correctness is a doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

That was in the early ninety's. Got addicted to Red Baron, the original. Offline at first then online. AW on AOL around 94. Played all AW versions until it died. Tried AH, Warbirds didn't like either one. Took a break for a few years.
Started flying again earlier in the year on Warbirds. Still didn't like it. At suggestion of Alskn I tried AH. Even though my skills have deteriorated I like it. So you all stuck with me!:O

I have a squadie that is located in Alaska and flys planes as well. i think pond hoppers or something like that.

we have three members from Alaska.

I started playing Warbirds back in 1998; got the disk in a box with a joystick I bought for another game.  Us Avengers just made the move over to our new home a couple of months ago after almost 10 years in the same sim.  The pain and suffering of being a noobie again would be unbarable if not offset by the amount of fun we are having learning a new game.

Air Warrior for Windows on AOL, I think 1995 or 96. Came here when AW shut down.

Although I hardly ever fly anymore. Just a few times the last 9 months.

Played AW 3 , AW MV ..till 12/7/01 . I was on AW the last night, when EA litterly pulled the plug on us, and shut it down .... (I'm still pissed at EA . )

I belonged to two squads in AW , my CPID was Chkrs I was in `CUCAS SQUAD` and later was with the SeaSerpents .  After  AW was shut down, The SeaSerpents  screwed around and tried WB's for a short while,  then we came to AcesHigh . The SeaSerpents CO was HG .  There were a lot of killers in The SeaSerpents , ADIOS, Jug, Freeway to name a few ....
After a while , The SeaSerpents faded away . About a year or so  later  I got an invite to the +++The Blue Knights+++  .  I played AH1 alot,  untill HTC shut down AH1 .  ....

I play AH2 once in a while , but for the most part AH2 just dosen't hold my interest like AH1 did .......

Dan neem je toch een betaalde account a $15/m (is gunstig met de huidige dollar koers), daarmee doe je ook wat terug voor HTC ;)

Started flight sims before I hit puberty. Top Gun and Chuck Yagers Flight Sim for the Tandy 1000, big old flat floppy along w/ BC's Quest for Tires. 1st Multi-player, old AW on AOL, maybe 96 or 97, can't remember. Just remember my AOL bill around $300. Went onto AW on EA. Then came to AH in 01 I think.

Spitfire 64 and Dambusters on Commodore 64.
First 1 vs 1 on early PC playing Falcon 1.0 against a friend in computer class.
All the major air combat sims after that.
First 1vs1 through internet in EAW, some ROCAF dude handed me my bellybutton a few times so i decided that I still have lots to learn (still do).
A friend tried to get me to play Warbirds in y2k but I was not interested enough then.
AH was the first pay to play online sim for me.

We had 104 responses.  To make it easier I'll use 100 to eliminate a couple of duplicate entries.

If we assume there are somewhere just over 6000 people in the AH universe (probably a little low but close enough based on the lowest ranks seen in the arenas) and that 5% make up the vocal majority of the AH community that visit the BBs (according to many posts I've read) then there are 300 BBs users.  If we further assume that the BBs users represent a cross-section of the AH player base (a big assumption), then 1/3 of all players are "long-timers".

Lower than my initial 50% estimate and probably actually closer to 25% due to assumptions but still a substantial number.

Of course this isn't scientific by any means but should be directionally correct.

Time to recalculate this thing I think.

We are now at 237 posts.  I'll reduce that by 20% for duplicates and noob contributions.  Using the other assumptionas above we are now closing in on 2/3 of all AH players being "long-timers", now over my original estimate.

Even at a 25% reduction the total is still almost 60%!
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.
