If you HAD to relocate?

To another country

Where would it be and why?

Personally, I'm not sure, but I think I'd give Australia a serious look.

Not enough details, neubob. Why or who from the person needs to relocate would be important. Access to financial resources has to be known. You can't just take a wad of cash out of the country into another. Will currency exchange be necessary? How will you transfer money? Will the person need to work? Are extradition treaties important to the discussion? Will the mob be paying you in cash for this advice?

All those things, and more, have to be considered.

You don't think you can just take a flight to Australia and be relocated, right? ;)

Really? There's more to it than that? Like what?

I just figured they'd give me a house and a job and all I'd have to do was adapt to that funky accent.

Australia would be a good choice for me, but I also like Germany, was stationed there for 4 years, great food, great beer, good lookin women, a fest almost every weekend and an almost perfect spot to be centrally located and tour Europe.

Belize. Located just south of Mexico it's the only english speaking country in Central America and is a member of the British Commonwealth with a stable government. It has the 2nd largest barrier reef in the world and boasts awesome diving and fishing. The dollar is based 2 to 1 on the American dollar. You can take all your belongings tax free. You can live there tax free after age 45. It has some of the nicest white sand beaches in the world, many for sale at rediculously low prices. The total population is under 300,000.

Since I went to the trouble of buying a ticket and all, I'm expecting a nice plot on the coast too.

Australia is English speaking, first of all. Secondly, given my education, I think I could find decent work there. Their economy is strong, education levels decent, and real estate can still be purchased at decent prices without having to compromise too much. Finally, their social values aren't too far off from what I'm used to, and from what I've heard, the place is beautiful.

The hole in the ozone and the high incidence rate of skin cancer troubles me, as does the influx of immigrants from poor Arab nations.

There, now that I plugged that hole, why don't you answer the question.

Switzerland.

Probably the most democratic government in the West.  Taxes are only moderately higher than in the US, and the highest percentage goes to the region or village where you are from.

I was amazed when my co-worker told me that citizens can challenge laws/initiatives passed by the government by collecting 50,000 signatures which places the challenge on the next election ballot.  If you want a new law passed, you collect 100,000 signatures.
