If you HAD to relocate?

The Danes seem to have their shxt together, so I'd consider Denmark.

I also have relatives there so I wouldn't be pressed to immediately learn the language.

No way I'd relocate to the UK...  That place is just as screwed up as the US.

I have a few friends who plan on retiring in Thailand, having married nice cute Thai girls while stationed in the Pacific.  There are benefits to being the only one in a hundred square miles with a college education and standing 4-6 inches taller than the natl average.
Everyone I know, goes away, in the end.

Rolex, they don't believe anyone who's not on American TV. Intellectual majority is the same everywhere.

In Narita they trade around 100 Yen for a dollar. And they accept US dollars, but don't accept Euros, Aussie dollars or Russian rubles (This is really unfair!!! ;)) in stores...

We Russians have some experience, I mean - people who remember Soviet times, not young kids. One ruble now is 1000 old Soviet rubles, and a monthly salary of 120 rubles in Soviet times is about 20000 "modern" rubles now. We calculate exchange rates in our minds as Cray supercomputers :)

Well, though I'm not planning on moving back, I'd absolutely love a nice condo in Moscow.

If I was forced to leave Australia and move somewhere else, I guess it would have to be wherever it was they extradite me to, because it sure wouldn't be happening by my choice.

Where the bloody hell are yas?   <-prolly not real work safe F word in use.

Australia would be cool if there weren't soooooo many creepy crawlies that can kill you.

somewhere in the Caribbean would be nice, money goes a long way, hot tourists all the time, great climate, and relaxed generally.

I have never been to Europe, Asia, or anything so I can't say for sure, though Spain seems nice from pictures, and Japan seems intriguing, but Japan especially there seems to be cultural boundaries I don't know I could get over.

that and I don't really like eating seafood at all. I can live with some fresh grilled fish in the Caribbean, but that's about all I will eat.

In fact it does seem much of the rest of the world relies on seafood ALOT more than the Midwest US, something I would not be fond of at all.
I don't know what to put here yet.

I relocated to Disneyland just over two years ago. Pretty happy all in all. Cost of living is a little lower, the weather's nice and the people generally have a much healthier attitude to life and work than back home. Tax seems awfully high given the lack of any kind of health care or pension provision and the quality of the roads sucks.

The major problem with relocating is that involves much more frequent and in-depth contact with useless government agencies than any person should have to deal with. My own experience has been with US agencies, but I've no reason top believe anywhere else would be any better.

Vladivostok. Beautiful town with gorgeous surroundings. Mixture of classic European and Asian influence. It's developing steadily in terms of economy and industry. Real estate is getting expensive, though, and maintaining a car can be hellish. If you can stand the extreme cold, and the odd phenomenon of driving on the right side of the road in a right hand drive car, I'd say it's a candidate.

You'll understand what goes on around, while other Americans will simply enjoy it and have fun :)

What I mean: foreigners don't understand some peculiar dangers, but it's the reason why they never get in trouble. Feeling self-confident and sometimes saying "Ja ja volkswagenhitlerkaput!" or "doyouspeakenglish-yesiamatable!" solves almost any problem here.

If you earn enough money - Msk is a nice city with friendly population and good entertainment. Enough is much less if you try to naturalise and don't eat in restaurants every day.

To be fair, people everywhere only know what they read, hear from others or know from first-hand experience. I understand that.

Stores in Japan cannot accept any foreign currency, including $US, because of money laundering laws. I've read of places in Hokkaido that accept rubles and give change in rubles, since so many Russian fishermen and buyers of used cars, motorcycles, scooters and bicycles make port there. I can't confirm or deny that.

At this moment at Narita, it's about 113 yen per dollar if buying yen, 119 yen if buying dollars. The currency traders always make a profit. :)

WHAT?!

If you are African - you'll probably hear something like "Oh boy, you probably feel sooo cold! Get this glass of vodka to warm up a little!"

All this stories about Evil Russian Nationalistic Skinheads are nonsense. Moscow is 10 million people officially, 20mil in fact, now 30 to 50% are non-Slavonic.

Moscow, the new Moscow, that is, not the one where I was born, speaks to the part of my brain that demand certain experiences.

It's more exotic and dangerous than New York

Trendier and more lavish than Los Angeles

Gaudier and more depraved than Las Vegas

Of course, different parts are different, and things change (I haven't been there since sumemr 2005), but 'Nice and Friendly' I can get plenty of in Central PA

Before you go strutting around talking about intellect, maybe you should reread my post.

I picked the wrong column to quote and corrected myself. I never argued with Rolex that he was wrong. If I'm not mistaken he lives in Japan and has personal knowledge of what a hamburger costs.

I've seen those Moscow apartments. I'll stick with Belize, intellectually speaking.
My mind is a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives.
