his senate seat is up for election in 08, the demos would try to drag out the "investigation" to affect the election, the republicans wanted him to resign so the republican governor of Idaho can appoint a republican to fill the seat. That way there will be a republican incumbent for the 08 election.

there you go making sense again txmom, I think if you check the forum rules you'll find making sense isn't allowed.

Each person should vote based upon their own self interest. If not, what's the point of voting? Officials are elected based upon their ability to represent the constituents within their jurisdiction.  The results of an election (enough folks saying that one particular person shares enough of their common personal interests) show which person is most closely aligned with the interests of their community.

Do you think that when you vote you should place your self interests above the 'best interests of the community?'  And you're right, they usually end up being the same.

Really?

I don't think he sould resign at all. I'm still fuzzy on what exactly he did that was so terrible.

Nope, I didn't say that. I have said that those on the Dem side of the aisle making a BFD out of this are applying a double standard.

Politics being what it is, I understand why the Reps decided to throw him under the bus ASAP. Is directly linked to the next election.

As for him continuing in his job, I think that's a call the voters of his district should and would make.

Seems some in the media have brought up Packwood

And that scandal about a young intern who's body was dug up in Rock Creek Park?  The Representative lost his job when the votors said "We'll be voting for someone else."

...and as predicted, he's had a sudden change of heart about resigning.

I don't know what the big deal is chairboy footsie craig may have precedent to remain in his seat.  BJ Barney still has his seat even though they were allegedly running a gay prostitution ring out of his home.  gay prostitution is probably not a far fetch for those beltway insider type guys anyway, they have been doing something similar for years.

Did I say it was a big deal?  I think the sting sounds like stinky bait, and I think the police there are wasting tax payer money.  The link I posted was just an update to the story, I think it's funny that he plead guilty, promised to resign, and has now backpedaled.

I sure hope the Repubs in here don't hurt themselves trying to unpat their backs after the recent turn of events. OTOH if you think the (almost) resignation of Craig and the non-resignation of Vitter have nothing to do with the party affiliation of their respective governors you may just need to take a seat in the corner and watch.
