The learning curve wasnt as steep in AW because of the RR, so it kept people attention a lot more. Especially since it didn't take a super fast computer to run it.

Do you remember when I used to tell ya that the 109 was just a mini-38?  Man you could do awesome stuff with those flaps.  You are right about the learning curve but the interaction was the main thing for me in AW.  Gawd how I miss those deathstars and Vaders!  :(

I do salute those are have tried and are trying to bring that to AH.

Now the game itself.. definitely AH over AW. Graphics, plane selection, flight model. However AW didn't have HO'n dweebs (because of the infamous "hit bubble", rams, and AW did have a LOT better fights for the most part :)
Absofreakinlutely. The community was very tight in AW. I regret not going to the convention in Addison.

Well said PK1.
Nobody denies the technical 'improvements' of AH and ...what would I do without AH ? :) I'd probably be vastly more insane than I am today..... BUT the satisfaction gained from an hour of AW is quite unreachable here. It used to be a constant laughing. When I got shot down I used to laugh. It's not just me. Today every1 is pissed, no1 talks friendly. We're all pissed off and I think it's because of the perks and ranking. If AH took that crap away it would be a HUGE improvement.
So what if a stuka could kick a spit's arse? What if a goon was impossible to kill if you were triying to dogfight it instead of BNZ it? I made friends over AW and I go to their weddings. Here people don't even chat. Too serious.
AH could be just as much fun if the testosterone was taken out of the equation.
We had the best time with a 110 that turned better than a PJ. It was an absoulte ball.
I used to pair with any newbie, me in a goon he in a fitter. I'd make the nme think they could kill my goon but drain all their E then the newbie would come in and get kill after kill. I nevew laughed that much in this game.
Another blast was a stuka duel. It would go for 30 mins. Those bb guns would take forever to kill any1 and in the mean time youd make really tight turns at 2 mph :)
To me THAT was fun. The only complaint i used to have was about the friggin discos!!!
I think this game could be made just as fun.
EA killed Kesmai.
Ranking and scoring kills AH....
Actually now that i think about it. H2H was closer to the AW fun than the MA. Why not reinstate H2H only for paying customers?

Fiat ( in Aw also Pazzo, Tuffo )

BTW, the above screenshots are from the early era. The last versions of AW were much better.

Without question, scoring/ranking has changed the game for the worse far more than anything else.

In the old days we just had fun - the dueling ladder was there for those who wanted to prove who was better (and did).

As much as some would like it, EA hasn't gone out of business yet.

The best offline flight sim is still European Air War though.

Ahhh... the things we forget.
I just took a flight on the historic europe map :) went across the channel in my jug in aw 3. I can get classic going just have to change 256 colors.
The interface with AW is better then AH. setup sound joystick and such same stuff we have, just point and click. Remember the guy in the setup hanger. The co-pilot in the buffs. The adjustible piper gunsight, had to reset it to "red dot, yellow tracers" as Big T would say :) Everything worked accept the full screen view and 3d really did not look that bad :) even the calibration of my joysticks. Remember the white cliffs of dover? :) remember how the guns buffeted? they was no alt x feature you had to know the speed of your plane and best climb and so on. remember the {ESC} key commands esc:sd or sg for the dive bomb sight esc;a arm bomb the fire bomb button is the same so it worked on my setup {what}. I think I will go make a run to the spitter in a 17 ;) take a look through the norden.

asta,

I sort of agree scoring and ranks hurt AH but I think it's also the mindset of the players nowdays, especially the ones that have played games with so called 'cheats' to improve their performance. They don't have any in AH so they game the game and still try to get the 'cheats' to make them look better. They do not want to waste the time to actually improve their skill with a little work and most likely some suffereing a death or a few hundred deaths.
They want to be better NOW and take the shortest cut they can find to get there.

Disclaimer- Cheat, as I used it, is in no way intended to mean hacking the game.
We all know a 16 ton weight falls from the top of this food chain and deals with anyone who does or mentions that.
It is more intended to apply to other games where certain key combinations or secreet things you find can improve your playing performance.
Far too many, if not most, people on this Board post just to say something opposed to posting when they have something to say.

Funy AH had a developing community in the works, seem to remember that being pretty much subsumed and consumed by the influx  from the death of AW.
Good business opportunity for HTC though.

There were plenty of score monkeys in AW. Anyone here besides Fencer remember ELO?

Hey Roberto...

Remember Carlos and his bunch, conquering the arena every day before any Bz or Cz logged in?

Not really anything that new in AH, when it comes to how people play.
