There are certain broad similarities.  Not suprising since they are both members of the sunfish family.  However, at least in Texas, there is a signifigant size difference.  Unless you are a very lucky BlueGill fisherman or a very unlucky Crappie fisherman. 

ON a side note, I just recently learned that Largemouth Bass are not true Bass but also a part of the sunfish family along with BlueGill and Crappie.

Besides having some similarities such as you pointed out and fins they are, in fact, different species.

I think you meant that the picture "looked" like a bluegill to you.  I assure you that the picture that Treize posted was in fact a Crappie.

I've caught them by accident, but never gone out for them specifically. I usually go for bass and pike. Usually end up with crappie, perch and bullhead.

BTW, this is a crappie for you smart alecks. Its kind of like the ugly lovechild of a largemouth bass and a pumpkinseed sunfish.

Our club has draw tourneys so if your a non-boater sign up and pre-fish as well as fish the tourney with a boater. Next draw will be for Lewisville.

On another note: Peru is one of my favorite countries to visit but the more I travel away from the USA to all over the more I'm thankful upon my return home even if it's cold in Texas as the moment.

I'd love to fish on Sunday but I've got to leave for Alberta, Canada on Monday.

I haven't fished for 'em in years but they are the best tastin' fresh water fish imo. When I was much younger we'd go out and fish most of the night, catch 60-70, have a great fish fry the next day.
