Obama will undoubtedly take the left coast, as well as some of the more populous states in the north and northeastern seaboard. However, his brand of liberalism has never played well in the heartland or the South, and no president has been elected in recent decades without carrying them.
Charon, be careful what you wish for; you may get it.

I felt the same way about Clinton when he was governor of Arkansas and running for president. If he became president, I thought, at least he would be out of our hair.
I was wrong. Boy, was I wrong. Had he remained in Arkansas, at least the damage would have been contained.
Obama as president would be disastrous for the courts, civil liberties, and for taxpayers. If elected, and if he has coattails, he and a liberal Congress would, quite literally, run naked through the streets throwing tax-money at all-the-sundry. The definitions for 'hate crimes' and 'hate speech' would be greatly expanded, and the first and second amendments would come under an attack unlike anything seen in the past. The push for 'reparations' will no longer be a joke. Our foreign policy will be based on good feelings, Danegeld, smiles, and gossamer wings and fairy dust. Iraq will be left swinging in the wind, and Israel will be cut loose and left to the tender mercies of its enemies.
These things could cause such a backlash that the Dems will be swept from office in the Congressional elections of 2010. Yet, that isn't a given, for, sadly enough, many Americans would support some of these policies.
