I have found the best way to bow out of threads starting to heat up is to simply leave them.
I fly AR234s too. I upp them to 8,000 to 10,000' and fly towards the biggest , hairiest furball bases I can find. Only once, in all these months, have I lost a bomber. I learned how to take them off without RATOs yasee? If I was a guy who really cared about score I'd probably climb to 16,000' and drop the 3 eggs on towns or cities. Or a strat. Bombing like that ups you hit score.
Your post dribbles with inconsistencies. You say you fly ARs thru heavy red bars but still only bomb strat targets. Well what if the red bars and the strats dont line up? What then? You only have so much fuel in those things.
Dieing is never heroic but dont you get bored never having to fire a gun or engage a con? Oh I forget, your "decimating the strat game" right? With the 3 puny eggs on the 234 exactly what are you decimating? Its hard enough with a formation of Lancs.
Methinks you are upping 234s to an invulnerable alt and bombing worthless targets, the kinda targets that give the best bang for the buck for scoring. And the ditches, et al, are from landing the things. Your simply a scoe 'hoe in AR234s, which is original. I'll give you that.
I have far more respect for hangar bangers who are at least helping their teams, while bombing meaningful targets, and almost always shooting their guns.
Have you ever tried to run down AR234's at 16,000 feet? That's about all I ever fly as bombers along with a handful of Stuka and Boston flights and, of course, Goons for base captures which is where all my deaths come from. Hi-Tech allowed us one bomber perk option and with thousands of bomber perks I decided I'd try to get good in that one option.
I fly AR234's over the biggest red dar bars on the map during prime time evenings. The fact is, no one can catch me. Is dying every sortie some sort of heroic thing? I call it stupid.
I'm not a hanger banger. I like playing the descimate the strat game. Sorry if that doesn't meet with your standards of play but if the enemy strats are up in an area the Bish are working and I have the time I'm going to go put them out of commission which sometimes requires multiple sorties.
