I get tired of the fat/skinny argument. The issue is body fat. Lazs says many kids where fat when he and the flintstones played w/Dino. This is bull sh it. We have a obeseity epidemic now. I see way more chubbed out kids than I ever went to school with. The kids that where chubby w/my generation did all the same things we did..they where just bigger. Now... you have lard tulips who idea of excercise is a Mofo-ing Wii.

well, i'm 46...graduated in 1980.

i think i can count all of the fat kids in my highschool on one hand.

 when we were more active, we were all thinner.

What is the argument here? What's to discuss?

1. Excercise & eat well = look good & feel good. Healthy body.
1. Don't excercise & eat McDonald's all day = look bad & feel bad. Unhealthy body.

Sure, you can have a few extra pounds still be fit. You cannot have a lot of extra pounds and still claim to be fit (and I think this girl is a mild case of this). If you really are excercising frequently and properly, and eating properly, usually you just don't look like that without a slow metabolism or medical condition.

We came in at lunch in the winter to dry off our clothes from sleding or sking and eat.  In summer when it began to get dark.  I don't remember ever seeing any fat kids in school.  We were far too busy to sit and play video games all day.

While a wii probably isn't going to lead to much weight loss I went to school with a guy who was probably 250-275 all the way through school.

I ran into him a while ago and was dumbfounded.  He was 160 or 170 I'd say.  Completely different.  I asked what happened?!?!?

He simply replied a really really bad Dance Dance Revolutuion addiction.  Video game induced weight loss, creepy!

This country is in serious denial. Most of us are fat, and many of us are disgustingly obese. We've been taught to blame McDonald's, Global Warming, El Ni�o, Space Aliens, The Government, whatever , but the truth is we alone decide what and how much we stuff down our throats. I was a kid in the 60's and 70's. We had maybe one fat kid in our class, the rest of us being typical active, wiry kids. Comparing those kids to the kids of today is a no-brainer. Today's kids (and their parents) are significantly heavier.

Skyeho mentioned the explosive growth of Bariatric medicine earlier. Stop and think about it. How twittle'd up have we become when one of the most rapidly growing fields in medicine is there strictly to deal with what was once a relative rarity?

Whether we want to admit it or not, americans are overweight, and it's becoming a burden on all of us, whether it's our own health, the health of our family members, or the growing ranks of the "self-disabled" who need (demand) to be taken care of.

If I sound unsympathetic, you're absolutely right. My little sister was a nurse until one of these nasty fat-azzes "coded" (heart attack) while she was trying to get her back into bed. The lady weighed over 400 lbs and fell right on top of my sister. Now she's on permanent disability with a titanium cage holding two of her damaged vertabrae together. She'll be on powerful pain medication for the rest of her life. Unsympathetic is an understatement.
