Raptor Photos
« on: September 11, 2008, 01:08:06 PM »
This Raptor came through the other day and I was able to snap a few shots...  the funny light spots are flash reflections from the fence....

Great shots!

Anyone know why the canopy is that orange hue?

Nice shots, but how does the fence cause those reflections?

It has to do with the canopy being inlaid with Gold film to prevent elcetromagnetic radiation harming the contents is the way it was explained to me.

I want to know what the Green Looking Panel is.

The camera is a cheap Sony, and the flash and lens are really close to the chain links when I take the photos.

Last year before an airshow we had a Mustang and an F-22 flying tandem and doing circles around the downtown area. But I must say, had a P-38 also been with them, it would have been that much better. :salute

Probably some sort of materials test. Notice it is also on the top leading edge of the wing?
If you like the Sick Puppy Custom Sound Pack the please consider contributing for future updates by sending a months dues to Hitech Creations for account "Chalenge." Every little bit helps.

Actually the gold tint is there to reflect microwave energy, in order to minimize radar reflection. I don't work over there any more, but the F-16's canopy, made by TEXSTAR Plastics here in Grand Prarie, used a similar gold film to minimize microwave transfer thru the canopy. I'm guessing that TEXSTAR makes the F-22 canopy as well, and that the gold film is there for the same reason.

I don't think so. That's an operational fighter out of Langley. It's highly unlikely they'd be carrying out a materials test. Actually, it looks like the protective film used on new parts prior to painting, but that doesn't explain the weird reflectivity in the photo.

Bodhi, did the green patches look that bright in person?
