Yep Shawk is just TERRIBLE in the DA, granted your right on the theory - higher ranked tends to be less skilled however - look at the fighter rank to determine the better pilot. someone with 40 K/D ratio is likely to hit and run, someone with 2.5 k/d more likely to dogfight, or 0.50 k/d could be a base defender.

For the long story of AH it were different "high ranked" pilots, for example Mitsu or Fester were #1 for some tours (though normally skillful dogfighter tires of scoreplaying very fast).

Normally high rank means that this pilot is motivated to go top, knows score system very good, has lot of playing time, good all around experience in AH, and big ego.

(I also was #1 for many tours many years ago, so I know about that ego thing -))

I have nothing against score playing btw. Any form of playing is fine, while people can take it easy when they fail in anything.

Some have a different motive for rank, I for example only care for rank in top 100's simply to keep idiotic people from taking a CV away from me and turning at last minute i try to land a perk plane on it. What I really can not stand is people that have this brilliant idea that turning CV every 15 seconds will keep it alive 1 minute longer, while others are trying to take off / land.

Rank means nothing. Some people unfortunately think otherwise :(

Over all - Rank is just something for people to work on as a measure of skill. While you are correct, people need to look at their
stats instead of trying to determine if rank makes them better.  example - last tour you have 0.85 k/d ratio in a furball - rank 200 and this tour 1.45 k/d in furballs and rank of 300 - you clearly are doing better this tour with a better k/d then last tour. Rank proves nothing for the most part, I would rather people  look at their stats each tour and determine if they are better then the previous tour.

So, since you are one of the best vulch/pickers I have ever met in this game, please enlighten us.  What does knowing you are #1 without having to beat anyone in a fight do for your ego?  You are #1 in what?

The thing that surprises me is how easy it is to get a good rank.  I'd rate myself around the top 500 for skill in this game, but it wasn't too difficult to rank in the top 10 when I tried it for the first time last tour.  No more than 5% of my fighter kills were vulches, but maybe up to 20% of my gv kills were "camping," on one occasion killing 26 spitfires trying to take off from a capped base. :lol

How I got 19 kills in one sortie in the M3 is top secret... :noid

Anyway, I promise you won't see me in the top 10 again. :o

You're still playing for score like this even if its not to be ranked number one. Every single mossy sortie in the MA i start by dumping 2000 rounds of unwanted .303s. when i want to  go duel a friend i auger with or without kills. When i am bored waiting for a mission to roll i killshooter myself on cbizkit in a good old fashioned game of polish dogfighting. There is no way i can use any of my stats to grade my skill, and i suggest that doing so means you are still playing with a mind to get a good score or stat, whatever you want to call it. When you finally stop checking the score page altogether then you can rightly claim you dont give a hoot about rank.
And I don't know much, but I do know this. With a golden heart comes a rebel fist.

You practically did not read anything I wrote, so why bother replying? I wrote stated - Those that want to see how they are improving - can look at stats to determine how they are doing rather then rank. Not those like you who blindly don't care or play for fun - won't care for rank or stats - You are clearly not trying to improve your flying - rather just going up having a few turns in a furball and die and having fun doing it. Totally different criteria don't you think? I don't care for stats myself - those who care so much for K/D and Hit percentage are ones that dedicate themselves to the "rank" i.e pacerr etc.
However some with ranks in the 50's arn't really working at rank at all, all it takes a few fighter runs, few buff runs, few gV runs and your rank is under 100 so whats the point of "rank" when it clearly needs no effort except for those wanting to be top 10.

 :rofl

Redtop is winging with me and i'm in trouble, he sprays with his p47 from 800 yrds and pops the nik off my tail using half is ammo. bam - lousey hit% for the tour. But saving my butt with a long range shot? That, my young friend, is what he and I grade his skill level on. It is the events and combats we have that improve us the most not being extra carefull next tour to convince yourself you have improved.

Just last tour I was in my Ki-84 doing my best to chase down a Temp. The guy extends (naturally), then comes straight back in for the HO from hell. I think his name was Chickenwng or some silly s**t like that, doesn't matter really.

So I bi*ched a little on 200 and he starts PMing me talking about how much better his score is than mine and I'm just whining. Those kinds of cartoon pilots usually jump all over the "W" word right off the bat. It makes them feel better about using their kind of "craptics" in what they perceive is a good fight.

Anyway, I digress. So I challenged him to the DA and he refused on the grounds that my K/D wasn't high enough.

I've heard some lame s**t before but that takes the cake.

Open challenge: If you see me and want to DA and I'm not wrapped up in a squad mission, please don't hesitate. In fact, the better you're score the better for me. I want to learn and I know to be the best you gotta beat the best.

Personally I don't care if I've improved in any aspect of the game. I don't care if my k/d goes down. I think I've looked at the "scorers page" maaaaybe 3 times in the last year. I measure my success in this game on whether or not I'm having fun. That is all. The first year or so that I played I found myself looking at it quit often and when I would logg on I would go "man, i gotta get more kills in fighter or attack mode" or whatever the case was. Chanzz and some of my HA buddies told me to pay no attention to the scorers page for a couple of months and see what happens. Well.... I found myself having ALOT more fun. I've never bothered to pay any attention to it since. I would also have to say the vast majority of "good fights" that I have found myself in are with guys that feel the same way about it as I do. To each his own though as long as your having fun...Who cares :aok

Just because one doesn't pay attention to their score/rank hardly means they are not looking to improve.  I don't give a rat's arse about my score but I am constantly trying to improve myself and I don't need to look at my stats to achieve that goal.

I just laugh when i am in a F6F or 190a8 and a spit 16 or La kills me.  Then seeing that same person on 200 telling me i have no skills.

I guess they have to feel good about them self when they kill a easy target with a plan that needs no skills at all.
