I admire this guy because, like Stephen Perkins, his technique and style of playing is completely unorthodox, yet it works perfectly..
In drumming, making every note hear-able along with being dynamic is key.... Lots of rock and metal drummers are just hard hitters with no
finesse, no sense of style, and definitely no dynamics..
These guys make every note count.... I dig Mike Portnoy, but his technique and style of playing is very reminiscent of Neil Pert or even Dave Weckl..
But, I think he's probably one of the first guys in metal (prog metal specifically) that implemented this type of style and made it work....
Truthfully, however, that style isn't my thing although I can appreciate the skill and stamina taken to play like this for any length of time..
