Go see it in IMAX if you can. It is awsome on the huge screen.

The IMAX version was TOTALLY AWESOME! Its the first IMAX show I had ever seen and it was well worth the few extra bucks to see it. Not only was the screen friggin HUGE but the sound....WOW I could feel the explosions reverberating in every bone!

Loved it, highly recomend seeing it in IMAX  :rock

found this.

Sequel
The film's major cast members have signed on for two sequels, which is standard practice.[163] Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof began writing the script for a sequel in March 2009, with the hope to complete it by December and produce the film for a mid-2011 release. J.J. Abrams and Bryan Burk will produce, although Abrams has not signed to direct again.[164] He explained with the alternate reality set up in Star Trek, it would be "ridiculous to not be open" to ideas like resurrecting William Shatner's James T. Kirk or recasting Khan Noonien Singh. "The idea, now that we are in an independent timeline, allows us to use any of the ingredients from the past — or come up with brand-new ones — to make potential stories," he said.[165]

Got dragged to see it today, and actually really enjoyed it. Of course, I spent the whole movie watching and trying to pick out all the characters out before they were actually introduced, and reliving what I'd liked about TOS when I was a kid (Characters and Story, not Tech and Eyecandy), not picking it apart from a Trekkie POV- my date was doing that for me (shes a HUGE Trekkie). I actually LoLed at a few parts that reminded me of the original ("Are you out of your Vulcan mind?") and wowed at some of the visuals. Was surprised at how much I actually enjoyed it.

But the one thing that bugged me most- why, in the movies, are the Romulans ALWAYS total whack jobs? They were the best villains in TOS and TNG, and great allies in DS9, and now they've been Stackpoled!
Treize (pronounced 'trays')- because 'Treisprezece' is too long and even harder to pronounce.

+1 :aok

only flaw i found

BTW Spoiler
why did spock have all that red liquid with him?
seemed to be a stupid mistake on his part, since it only takes a drop to destroy a planet or star

just being picky i guess

I did wonder that as well. If it only took one drop, why not transport it in smaller less fragile storage increments?

Also, when I saw it I immediately thought of Alias (ABC, Bristow & Vaughn)

So far there's only been ONE Romulan villain in the movies that actually ACTED like a Romulan: The Ambassador from Stark Trek VI. He was there but kept his involvement quiet and hidden, playing both sides. THAT'S how Romulans are supposed to act. Sneaky and subtle. Not running around in big-ass ships blowing up everything in sight. Even in TNG where the Romulan Warbirds outgunned the Enterprise they STILL relied on subterfuge rather than a frontal attack.
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

Biggest complaint I have "accuracy wise" (being a die-hard Romulan fan) is the Klingon ships they used in the Kobayashi Maru scenario in the movie- a ship that hadn't been developed yet, and even if it had, couldn't have been used by the Klingons because the alliance that led to them getting it was still decades away.

But I'm not a dork. Really.

Im guessing of course but in the movie the Romulan was blasting his way to the core of the planet in order to use a drop of the red stuff but with a star not only would the star be much more massive but you couldnt dig to the center. Perhaps quantity was supposed to make up for being off center by a few thousand miles or something.

I have always wondered this as well...  And also, we never see a Romulan ship or have any really major Romulan elements at all from the TMP era(I don't consider Ambassador Nanclus from ST:VI or the Romulan ambassador chick from ST:V that major).  The script for ST:III was originally written with Romulans in mind..  The ship and crew of the Bird of Prey were supposed to be Romulan..  That's as close as it got..   :frown:

If you really like Romulans, you should get a hold of the book The Romulan Way.  eBay or something will probably be like $1.00 or less..  I got mine at Half-Price books from 50cents..
Anyhow, it gives a detailed history of the Romulans from the time that they left Vulcan all the way up to Star Trek II..  I was totally awed reading this stuff as they are my favorite race
in the Trek Universe (GEEK ALERT GEEK ALERT!!!)  The Rihannsu (what the Romulans supposedly really call themselves which means The Delcared: as in Declared to leave Vulcan) series of books (I think there's like 5 now) also offer quite a bit if insight in the Romulan element as a whole..

If you're referring to the FASA book on the Romulans that they published as a reference for their RPG, I used to have it- only book for that game I ever got. Lost it in a move somewhere along the line. Was never all that into Trek, but for some reason I've always loved the Romulans. Especially in stories like Balance of Terror from TOS. Sneaky, yet honorable at the same time.

That's my all time favorite TOS episode...  Love what they did with it with remastering and the CG effects..  Classic....

(I don't consider Ambassador Nanclus from ST:VI or the Romulan ambassador chick from ST:V that major)

Nanclus maybe wasn't MAJOR, but as I said before he was still the only Romulan villain in the movies that actually ACTED like a Romulan (which is why he WASN'T a major villain. I'm sure the Romulans saw the advantage of sparking a Klingon/Federation war, so Nanclus was there to help stir the pot. Once the Klingons and Federation wore themselves out they would be free to move in and snatch up the pieces. That required him working in the background to support the conspiracy).

I think that's why the Romulans don't REALLY work as movie villains. Their methods are just too complicated and subtle for the flashy lights and explosions crowd, because a TRUE Romulan plot would involve much more intrigue and fewer explosions (great example was the episode of TNG where they get rid of a liberal/pacifist senior officer by tricking him into believing they intend to attack the Federation so he'd defect, get out of their hair, AND lure the Enterprise into an ambush to boot). Even though Balance of Terror centered around a space battle there was still a lot of cloak-and-dagger tension to it.

Also, as a point of order Caithlin Dar (ST:V) wasn't even a villain, so it's sort of a moot point bringing her up.
