It's not theory and it's not just F6.  It's F6 and a dozen other questions multiplied by however many different players are asking them.. and usually stuff they could figure out on their own. And join requests out of the blue, etc. And they do it in the MA of all places.  I mean, the TA's there, made especially for it.  It's like walking onto a football game and tapping people on the shoulder in the middle of a play, asking how you secure your helmet or what some tactical lingo means.

I don't see how expecting those "noobs" to make a minimum of effort is contrary to keeping the game healthy.

True enough.  I'll answer one or two and tune out if the guy's discourteous.  But if someone asks respectfully and I have the time I'll try to help out a little.  But I see your point.
You are in a maze of twisty little passages, all alike.

OK, you all probably know what I'm talking about. A newb desides that his first post shall be about a B-29 and what happens...? BOOM, every body who isn't newb and doesn't want the B-29 starts shouting "USE YOUR SEARCH", and "Why kill the kittens" and posts a picture of a kitten resting his chin on a gun, or "What do you have against kittens", and all that crap instead of actually helping them by telling them where the search is, how to use it, and giving them some tips about the search. They almost never give constructive criticizem either; only flaming.

And all I have to say is...Why?

Welcome to the internet.

People do and say amazing stuff in the virtual anonymity of the online world.  People who where not hugged enough by their mommies, or hugged maybee to much by their daddies will lash out at people at any given oppurtunity. And they do so without even realizing its their own inner demons and insecurities that allow them to do so.

Look for the one guy/gal in those threads/in game situations who actually take a moment to help them, or guide them in the direction of the help they are seeking. Make those people your friends, and your life will be enriched.  :aok

If I ever cross your guns, by all means squeeze the trigger...  You might want freebies, but I don't.

Front quarter shots from an angle gained on a lead turn is working for a different 'shot'.  This notion that you're only good if you kill someone from the dead six spot is silly and nothing more than someone's sour grapes.

ack-ack

IF it is the fight that most vets say they enjoy and want, then why shorten it by using the "throttle-off hard pull" lead front quarter shot? Kind of contradictory to me  :huh  Work it out and get the "GOOD KILL"

When dueling I'll dismiss this shot and try to work it out! In all honesty if I'm being GAZYnged, I "might" take this shot but I always think twice about it :aok

I'd say it's because a lot of us were among the first batches of n00bs, so we were all n00bs at the same time so we don't know what it's like being a n00b because it was like the blind leading the blind and now we get to be elitist snob vets.  Woohoo!

I also think that "the fight has to last xxxx minutes otherwise it's not an honorable fight" is just as much BS as saying that only "kills from the dead 6 are honorable".  If I am able to work an angle for a kill on the first turn I'm going to take it and enjoy the other guy whining about how 'cheap' the kill is just because he wasn't good enough to prevent me from getting the kill angle.

Yes, I like to have nice fights but only if it's because the other guy is good enough that he's making me work hard for the kill, like the fight I had the other night with Chanzz and his Yak.  That fight lasted a good 6 minutes with us going from 15k to the deck in a swirling and spiraling turn fight.  Great fight where I eventually was able to work the angle for the kill.  However, if he presented me with such an angle within the first moments of our engagement, make no mistake about it, I would have taken it.

Not sure I understand this reply Vudak ?

The way I see things, if the guy can get a shot on me, but I can't get one on him, it's fair game, and I want him to take it.  I, after all, am to blame for getting in that position.  I should have had a better angle.  If he holds off, what did I learn?  Further, if he holds off on a kill shot, and I later go on to "win," did I really?

Give me a clean first merge for sport, but after that, take any shot you get.  I will work hard to make sure you don't get one, you will work hard to make sure you do get one, and may the best man win.

Got it!!       :salute

Many many times I have dueled and it is obvious that my opponent and or I are forgoing these shots, and the fight is usually much more enjoyable for both! :aok

Those feel artificial to me sometimes...  Also you then get the gray area shots that could start an argument...  I'd rather just have the guy shoot, and I can shoot.  If we both want a longer fight for whatever reason, we can always get rid of cannons or a set of guns (or just both avoid getting in the way of bullets).

Besides, a big part of dueling is the whole risk/reward aspect...  "Ok, so he can probably get a shot here, but if he misses/doesn't kill me, I'll have a great angle in a second."  How can I fault a guy for taking what is "his" chance in that situation?

...  This is kind of a hijack, eh?  Ah, whatever.  After last week, we needed another HO thread anyway  :D

I'm often helping n00b's.   I used to get a little harsh with them, but realized (although I only asked questions to Nazgul squaddies when I first started) "I used to be them at one point".   The Alt+F4 responses are a necessity for some, because they are impatient.   But when some of these "Alt+F4 types" ask "What is the tailhook Command again or Dive flaps command", I extend them the same courtesy with silence.

As for starting threads, "Search" should precede any thread start.   But, it rarely does.

"Search" is one of those things that makes me scratch my head though...  So the guy doesn't search, and he's told "USE SEARCH!" but when he does use search, and posts in an old thread, he gets the "HOLY NECROBUMP, BATMAN!" response.  He's in trouble either way...

I agree! Also lots of times it is a newer fella just looking for answers so he posts! The ever present "use search" does little to satisfy ones immediate concern, sometimes simple answers are much more friendly and engaging :aok
