About the best pure "Turn and Burn" plane left is the Ki-100.
But I don't think it would be very popular due to its very low max speed(360mph). Its basically slower and heavier wing loaded (ie generally turns worse) than its predecessor, the earlier Ki-61-Ib that we already have.
How many Ki-61's do you see? I was actually shocked to see one in a fight yesterday, till I killed the guy and realized that he was very new.
The Two planes that would appeal to that crowd and still fit into our arena reasonably are the Ki84 and the Spit XIV.
The Ki84 would be a N1K2-J with an extra 20mph. It would be very popular, but I don't think it should be perked.
The Spit XIV, depending on whose interpretations of its abilities you believe, would range from merely very good

, to having 90% of the arena population flying it. My bet is that it would be a perk plane, but maybe not. It will definitely make all the current Spit IX fans drool and rub their hands together.
All the other planes mentioned while fun and capable in their own time periods, or scenarios/special events, but would not contribute much to the main arena.
Oh I did forget the Yak-3, but it would perform very similarly to the existing Yak-9U, and I figure very few people could tell the difference in the performance of the two.
