“To the last, I grapple with thee; From Hell's heart, I stab at thee; For hate's sake, I spit my last breath at thee!”

No disrespected to Gregory Peck, but the all-time best delivery of that line to Mr. Fine Corinthian Leather himself.

Oh, and J. J. Abrams can bite me while we're at it..

there was a movie, which i cant think of the name, which was based on the 1914 (? or maybe it was 1916, sometime within 3 years...) shark attacks At Atlantic City. it was really good, only saw it once though and that was a few years ago... i think it was on discovery channel actually.

another good comedy is Down Periscope... always love watching that...

Airplane!

Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

No other movies to which I have been exposed share the sheer number of people familiar with the quotes.  I cannot count the times that complete chaos reigned on VOX going through the exchanges.

'Best' in terms of cinematography, acting, plot, special effects, or soundtrack? Nope.

'Best' in terms of entertainment.. Yup.

Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

Holy Grail is one of those odd quotables. If you're in a boffer group or the SCA, you absolutely hate it when newbies come in and think quoting it is cool. It's just so obvious it's become cliche. But regardless of the prejudice against quoting Holy Grail, once one person starts the ENTIRE group will join in.

Guitar Player Magazine once done a survey of famous guitar players to find out who the guitar players guitar player is. Just so happens it turned out to be Spinal Taps Nigel Tufnel even though he is a character in a movie and not a guitar player because everyone could quote a line of Nigels from the the movie Spinal Tap.
No thank you Turkish, I'm sweet enough.

12 O'Clock High is a great war movie alright. But there are tons of others, and it's really hard to say which is best.

Apocalypse Now
The Bedford Incident
Patton
Flying Tigers
Tora, Tora, Tora
Cross of Iron (James Coburn, James Mason, with Sam Peckinpah directing)
Enemy At The Gates
Sahara (the one with Bogie, Bridges, and the M3 tank)
Desert Rats (not to be confused with the TV show Rat Patrol)
Tears of the Sun (I think that was it - Bruce Willis as a merc)
Full Metal Jacket (gotta love Kubrick and R.Lee)
Band of Brothers (technically not a movie, but had the same high production values)

Now, the worst war movie had to be the recent "Pearl Harbor" - wow - the Eric Mangini of war movies.

Thinking about it now, there really hasn't been a superb fight pilot movie. The Blue Max (w/George Peppard) was kind of close. Top Gun doesn't count - nor the scores of rip offs it spawned. Battle of Britain wasn't bad, but it was a bit too large in scope. Flight of the Intruder I guess is as close as you get recently.

Agreed.

Forgot to list my favourite 'road movie': 'Easy Rider', with 'Vanishing Point' a close second. And 'Fandango' reminds me of my salad days.

vanishing point, what a great movie!   I almost lived that one, took a 73 challenger across country, but never got chased by cops!!
