20 nice crappie from this morning on Lake Lewisville. Some came from bridges but most came from brush in around 10 feet of water. Plastics and feather jigs. Bite was a little slow so you had to keep on the move. Probably caught around 30 in total.

Going to have some for dinner this evening!

20 filets cooked tonight and another 20 in the freezer. Dredged filets in cajun mustard, coat with fine ground cornmeal lightly spiced, then in hot peanut oil until done. Homemade fresh cut fries and cole slaw on the side. Squeeze a little bit of fresh lemon juice on the filets and wash down with a cold beer.

I am still full.

Crappie is pretty much what I fish for year round. Although this year I've hardly been because of work travel and bad weather when home. It has been blowing like crazy this year in North Texas.

We are blessed in North Texas with a lot of great crappie fishing. Fall and winter fishing is my favorite though> Last year on Texoma I had a 25 fish limit that averaged 2lbs per crappie.

This is a nice one from a couple of years ago on Lewisville no doubt.

Nice crappie . On Enid lake they have to be 12 inche's before you can keep them . We see alot that size .. Why every one in the world seem's to be on Enid when the spawn start's . Like a small war on the lake , fight's and all ..
That's all I fisH for untill I need some extra money then I will put some line's out for catfish .

I went fishing today and caught at least twenty 12"+ trout. Too bad I forgot my trout stamp at home!  :bhead

I never had much luck with trout until I started fly fishing in streams. I went steelheading for a combined 20+ hours this winter using spoons and jigs, and only caught a few trout. Then a few weeks ago I started fly fishing and on a good day I can catch 2 or 3 steelhead. I have to ask though, are the steelhead in the deep rivers usually larger than in the streams, or is it just the different way I fish them? I've caught a few in the 32-33 inch range on the river, but none over 27 inches on the fly rod.

Normally, the size of the body of water doesn't matter on how big the fish can get. I could catch the new World Record Smallmouth Bass in Dale Hollow Lake, or I could catch it in a small creek near my house. The latter is unlikely, but possible. The bigger a volume of water is, the more fish it can sustain, and therefore, the larger those fish can possibly be. Example: I could catch a 20"+ Smallie in Dale Hollow and catch one of the same size in Elkhorn Creek. There will be more 20"+ Bass in the larger reservoir than the smaller creek due to population. Fish will still reach a certain size, but the number will be fewer. Does this make sense?

I've caught one lake trout trolling, and one brown trout from shore, and am pretty well convinced that the first is not for me (I hate letting the boat have the fun of the strike), and the latter is much smarter than me.  I can't figure out fast water for the life of me.  A river nearly killed me once, too, so I'm not in any big hurry to figure it out!

You give them too much credit, browns are a glutton for punishment.  How big of a river you talking and how are you fishing them?

To be fair, I haven't invested much time to trying to figure them out.  The one time I had success was very early and I was using a small spinner & worm on light spinning tackle.  I'd cast ahead of the fish and let it sink diagonally with the current to in front of their noses.  I mostly caught large suckers, but did catch one keeper brown.  Live bait is not an option for me anymore (I've resolved never to use it again), so that's out the window...

I've only gone a few other times, and mainly threw crankbaits looking for smallies but with little luck.  I usually wind up that way at a poor time though, and it is heavily pressured.  I've caught bass on cranks in other rivers, but not here.

The river section I visit is perhaps a cast-length wide and goes from rapids to smooth (but fast) water.  There are several boulders and obstacles within casting distance upstream, but I caught everything away from it.

I have to head up that way tomorrow morning anyway, so I might get up a bit earlier and try throwing some grubs on a 1/16th round-head jig looking for anything that will bite.  Unless of course you have a better suggestion :)
