Simplicity is the goal, having a thousand sound sliders for a bunch of sounds that you don't even know what they are is not really newbie friendly.  That why no other games do that.

If you want to ditch a sound altogether, you can use a blank .wav file as your custom sound.

Renaming a sound file no longer works ?

Do the sound files that are in a "sound pack" still work the same within a directory structure ?

Nope, no problem.

But then again, I didn't think the old radar was a problem either. :bolt:

We don't ship individual sounds.  We ship one file that contains all the sounds.

Custom sounds still work the same way.

We can no longer control individual sounds in game it seems........

I am very disappointed with this patch for that reason. I thought the sliders will be added for the release, I don't remember reading any comments in favor of not having the individual sliders.

The easiest way is to download a program call audacity (it's free) and change the recording level as you like it.

You can get it here; http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

This is an issue that, we the community can address, (especially if it helps HTC move forward) it might be annoying in the short term, but it can be fixed by us not HTC.

Here is a "Blank" sound file for everyone to use if you need it. Just replace XXX with the sound effect name you want to make quiet.

Understood... make the sliders available as an 'advanced' option like you do scaling, dampening and such on joysticks. New players don't need to fool with them, but its available for the rest of us.

There are only a few sounds I can think of that need to be lower volume or muted:

Muted:

"Base under attack"
"Stall horn"
"Air raid siren"

Lower volume:

Vehicle tires
Tanks treads
jarhed

I use vista and it won't let me even open the file named sounds.res, it trys to open in paint and won't,   I even tried to change that to word pad but it came up with all sorts of symbols. How do you take the downloaded file and put it in the game to do away with the sounds you don't want?

HTC,

Customisation is one of Aces High's greatest features. Removing the individual sound controls is just not acceptable to me as I'm one of the many players who use a custom sound pack. For best results some sounds need to be tweaked in game, for example:

•   I like to lower the volume of my engine to hear people speak on vent and hear myself think.
•   I like raise the volume of my flaps so I can hear them clearly instead of taking my eyes of the enemy to look at a dial.
•   Gun quality can be really poor when amplified to much, tweaking is needed.
•   I like to raise the volume of my stall and buffet for obvious reasons.

So you're telling me I have to go through all my custom sounds and edit them outside of game for best results or use the offical Aces High sounds which are crap.

"Worse change of all time, of all time."

my first thought also. Tankers are going to have to be more alert to their surroundings and people are going to have to watch their 6 a bit more often since you can't turn engine sound down now.
