Turn down "effects", turn up "vox"?

Too complicated?

wrongway

I think the issue is "I can't turn down sounds so i can hear people sneaking up on my six", but your answer would be the obvious if thats all it was.

Kind of like telling the wife to do the dishes because she's "the wife".

Demands always go over so well.  You forgot to tell us you're a paying customer....

 :cry

wrongway

and i'm a paying customer!!£!£!£!£!£!£! :rofl

Seriously though, the option is needed, I would settle for just a few seperate sound volume options: engine, warning, gun sounds, flaps, stall, buffet.

Doesn't have to be all of them.

HTC, where will we be able to find the names of new sounds as they come out?  A few of us are really going to need that info when needed.  Is there any way we could get a stickied (in the Sounds forum) master list of all the sounds used in-game and then updated/added to when new sounds come out?  This will be vital for old & new custom sounds makers.

 :pray

I already have an example.  Could you tell us the .wav name for the new AT gun please?

On that topic Ranger...

Do you happen to have the default AH sounds?

Negative Lute.  The default sounds are coded into the game.  We know what the sounds are named (to enable making custom ones) but we don't have access to the actual default sounds.  Later tonight I will make a blank (no sound) .wav for people to download and use to turn off any default sound they don't want to hear.  The player would just have to rename the .wav to whatever sound they want to get rid of and place it in their Sounds folder.  Best I can do.  There's no way to turn down the individual sounds without making custom ones.

Well for my part, since I am such a simpleton, the game is getting away from the base it has always played to.  Dale always said he wanted to keep the game so that the average player could play and didn't need a top shelf high end computor or sound system, this seems to have kept him in business for a lot of years.

Just my opinion though so it don't count for much.

Those using onboard sound will greatly benefit from the switch to the Miles Sound System.  They will get better sound quality while at the same time using less resources which translates to better performance.  There is no need to upgrade your sound card or system to allow your machine to run AH after the sound update.

Now you're just sounding like the typical squeaker.  They are not paid to code difficult things, they are paid to create, develop and run a game.

Rather sound like a squeaker then fly like a noob. :P But your right, my rant wasn't called for.

What was the reason for the switch to the miles sound system and how does it improve the game exactly?

I don't recall anyone complaining about the in-game sounds (except for CV guns being mega loud).  Now that things are so much easier for all the new people struggling with volume sliders (that they probably weren't even aware of) - a whole bunch of existing customers have to create their own sound packs.  Still -1 for the sound changes. :(

p.s.  thanks for fixing the 251 bug.

I repeat. On XP you can find a small program named sound recorder - or use audacity.
It gives to you the ability to set more low a sound effect.
Let's open an AH sound effect and reduce the sound volume.

Obviously I will prefear to have back a sounds list.

Other games do not have it. AH would be different from the others games.

Thousands of sounds!!?? - Ants fart too!?

Sound good !  :D

The main benefit to using the Miles Sound System is that it takes less resources and doesn't burden lower end systems with low end sound cards or onboard sound.  Those with older systems using low end sound cards or onboard sound should see some small performance improvement over the old sound system.  Another reason to use the Miles Sound System is that it offers a viable software acceleration solution for those that don't have hardware accelerated sound cards, this means that those with lower end systems and those with onboard sound will be able to enjoy the same benefits of using a hardware accelerated sound card.  It also allows easy updating and adding of new sounds to the game.

It really is a beneficial addition to the game, despite the inconvenience of no longer being able to set individual sounds.

To get rid of any doubt in your mind, copy and paste the Settings folder in a safe location and then install the update and then just paste the Settings folder back into your AH root directory.  But to answer your question the update should not in anyway modify your stick settings.

effects = "set the volume for sounds typically made by your vehicle"

environment = " set the volume for sounds typically heard outside your vehicle"

i just turned down effects to about 50%, left everything else at 100%. seems pretty much like it was before.  not done testing though...
