and the rumored remake of Midway.

some movies are such classics that they never need to be be redone because no matter how much they try. They will always fall short of the original.

Such movies. Pearl Harbor, King Kong. Moby Dick. Frankestein, The Wolfman.

Midway is another one of those movies.

Other movies that should never be attempted to be remade. Casablanca, Zulu, Mr Roberts. The African Queen, Ben Hur. and probobly 1,000 others

tom clancy Red Storm Rising

Yes!! I would love to see that made! I was on the edge of my seat for that entire book. It would be a long, long movie, but so worth it if they did a good job.

Pearl Harbor?  Are you serious?  Or perhaps (hopefully?) you were thinking of "Tora Tora Tora" and not the Ben Affleck version?

Back to the topic, I've always thought a movie about the flight that took out Admiral Yamamoto would be a good 2 hour movie.  Or a movie about Frank Luke and/or Eddie Rickenbacker would be good.

How about bigger-than-legend, young triple-digit-aces from WW2 like Marseilles and Hartmann?

Fangirls like those who watched Pearl Harbor movie will love these guys, and I know Hollywood likes to cast males that they consider 'hot' and 'slightly effeminate' as seen on the movie Twilight and HBO's True Blood :devil

Marseilles

(Hans)-Jochen (Marseilles) was a practical joker; he was forever playing pranks. He came to see me and my squadron - No. 8 Staffel - one day in his colorful Volkswagen jeep. He called it Otto. After a talk, a cup of sweet coffee and a glass of Italian Doppio Kümmel, he got into his jeep and drove it straight at my tent flattening everything. Then he drove off with a grin stretching across his face."
(Werner Schrör, 8/JG 27, 61 Kills in N. Africa)

"Marseille's superb ability as a pilot was only outshined by his uncommon, gregarious, and sometimes boyish behavior on the ground. He wore his hair long, had a penchant for practical jokes, and listened to taboo music like American jazz and swing, which was often referred to as "Jew" and "******" music. Marseille also had a fairly popular, and sometimes unpopular, reputation as being a "playboy." Early in his career, he was transferred from JG-52 by his commander, the famous Johannes "Macky" Steinhoff who said, "Marseille was remarkably handsome. He was a gifted pilot and fighter, but he was unreliable. He had girlfriends everywhere, who took up so much of his time that he was often too tired to be allowed to fly. His often irresponsible understanding of duty was the primary reason I sent him packing. But he had an irresistible charm." He was quickly shipped off to JG-27 and upon his arrival in North Africa, his commanders were in possession of a thick file containing his breeches of military discipline and unorthodox behavior. "

Hartmann

look @ this! from financial and latest trends standpoint, Hollywood should cash it in by making a film about him!
Or they could re-use the same formula that made Pearl Harbor a hot Box Office movie in 2001.

I read some info about this guy... He nearly got washed out of the Luftwaffe as a pilot when he first started. Couldn't do anything right and kept pranging planes. Then all of a sudden it clicked.

The take-away

1. good looks...
2. bigger-than-legend  life story...
3. appeasement of fangirls that made Pearl Harbor a runaway success...

have all three and you'll see modern Hollywood greenlight war movies :aok

Strangest 109 I ever did see on that memorial plate there...artist must be a fan of the 'History Channel'.

Oh yes, as for a movie I'd like to see made; something that occurs during the Franco-Prussian war would make me

I'd like to see a movie about the 2nd American Revolutionary War.  In it, the people would rise up and crush the federal government.

It would be good to remind those tools about who is supposed to run this country.

A movie about the War of 1812, with "Old Hickory" Andrew Jackson fighting in the battle of New Orleans.

Either that, or a movie about the hardships faced by America with the Articles of Confederation, essentially, we were at war with ourselves, until the new constitution was ratified.
Landing is overrated.

Different aspects of WW2 by Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg.

One scene, in particular, in "The Pacific", where the marines are loading up LVTs inside an LST( ? ) and you see the guys lining up in the bowels of the ship.  Little details you don't think about.  Then the front of the ship opens up and you see the LVTs roll out..

I'd love to see that detail on CV life.. perhaps a story of VF and VT squads on the early ships.. Coral Sea and Midway.. the briefing rooms.. living quarters.. some hint of what life was like..

Then some sort of film of the battle wagons.  Perhaps during the Kamikaze attack period.  The AA gunners...  The gunner crews.. ammo handlers..  The bombardment batteries.. operations in the battle bridge..   Bismark would be a real good opportunity for that..

Yamato is a great battleship movie, I liked letters from Iwo-Jima, something awesome though, would be to take mini siries like the Pacific and Band of Brothers, and look at it from the opposite sides, like Germany and Japan

Another ten-part World War II television miniseries produced by Steven Spielberg on the 8th AF or 9th AF.

A much better Rev War w/o Mel Gibson or F@I war.

Would agree in relation to Marseilles but it would have to be made by the Germans for any kind of authenticity.

I would like to see one about the second highest scoring RAF, (not Commonwealth) ace of WW2. Brendan 'Paddy' Finucane in part because he's Irish and in part because his story is rather tragic. He died aged 21 in 1942 while a Wing Commander, yet was only outscored by Johnnie Johnson who survived the war.

It has all the elements, he was good looking square jawed, a great leader, a celebrity of the time although nearly forgotten now and his death was rather pointless and tragic thus suiting the obligatory anti war theme every war movie apparently needs. There is even a romantic element. All that and his extreme youth.

If there's a film Hollywood ought to make it should be about the Hurtgen forest battle. That again has all the elements. A grim bloody battle again illustrating the waste of war. It could be a claustrophobic film set in a deep forest more akin to a horror movie.
