Bf-109T
« on: September 14, 2010, 04:14:45 PM »
this was basically a 109E configured as a carrier aircraft. it was lighter, had carrier landing gear, and a tailhook, and the same armament as the E

of course, the Toni never saw service as a carrier aircraft, but 60 aircraft, stripped of carrier landing gear and tailhooks, served with JG.77 and later JG.11 from 1941-1944

it did see combat in squadron strength, but only as a land version, which makes me wonder if we could get the cv version (the T-1).

it has superior acceleration compared to the E, and has a short take-off length. unfortunately, the only reliable sources are modeling sites, so this is the best i found:

Also, if am not mistaken, it was credited with the first aerial kill in a 109

No.

Without the carrier gear it was essentially a 109E-4 or possibly E-7 (depending on the engine setup, I can't remember the details).

Why ask for a plane that never was, in a role it was never used, when we don't even have the basic plane it's a clone of?

Just wish for the E-7, silly!!

Yes.  Something that we will not see it's likes on AH.

Yes, if i am not mistaken, the 109-T was the first to shoot down a B-17.  Somebody correct me if i am wrong on that.

The de-navalized 109Ts went to Norway.  I believe you are correct in that it was a 109T-2 of JG77 that shot down an RAF B17C of 90 Squadron on September 8, 1941.

So as soon as we get the B17C, then we can add the 109T for historical accuracy :)

If i'm not mistaken,
The German's had a aircraft carrier for 30 mins...
before the english showed up and sunk it..

So to be historically correct we can have the 109t,
It just can't up off a CV...

I LOVE damninteresting.com! That being said, are we talking about 109's in general, or during WWII itself? Germany tested the 109 in the the Spanish civil war. That was were they became battle-hardened.

"The first Bf 109As saw service in the Spanish Civil War. By September 1939, the Bf 109 became the mainstay fighter of the Luftwaffe by World War II, replacing the biplane fighters, and was instrumental in gaining air superiority for the Wehrmacht during the Blitzkrieg."
