For this particular MoM, I'm gonna drop my usual jet dweebery and will engage you in a 190A-5  :uhoh
(facing 47M escorts, I would rate returning to base with 1 kill as an success  ;))

 :rock

I remember seeing your 262 staying WELL away from the tight formation's of 17's in the last MoM. :lol  Can't say I blamed ya though. :salute

I'm hoping to see a lot more 109's this go around.  Very solid amount of 190's last go, but I myself, didn't see more than a few 109's.  And this time, I'm hoping that we don't get giga-vulched like we did last time.  I landed my plane right quick when I saw a 262 making a pass on the parked drones at the end of the runway.  So no kill for him! :lol

You can blame your escorts for that. I had a hard time setting up my attack due to 51's driving me away. I repeatedly found myself in a unfavorable position slightly below your formation. And at 28k, the 262 doesn't climb that well anymore.
Still got 6 of you and 2 of your escorts  :D

and our little dog too?!?  :O

I know the Knight Propaganda machine would have you believe that in [MoM5] the bombers were at 30k and escorts at 40k, but it simply isn't true. Everyone with a camera rolling that night can show you. (Some already have posted screenies)

The Highest flight of bombers was at 25k. With Mid and Low at 24k and 23k respectively. While escorts were set at 30k, SOME did go higher. I'd only suppose it is in their fighter blood. Can't blame those guys for not wanting to die. They've only got 1 engine to bring em home.

As for the boys bringing up 190's. I just was glad to see German Iron. (Well, at the time, I was NOT looking foward to that pack of 190's dropping in on us...) For the amount of passes through our formation they were expected to live through, they might as well bring max-cannon.

Cheers,

Yes, buffs were not much more than 25k. But the whole escort thing came because folks found dots up near 40k and called them out, and I've posted a screenie showing some 38s in the 37k-38k band AFTER some passes had already occurred on the buffs. So yes, buff alt was misjudged and never an issue, but people saying escorts weren't at 40k simply isn't true. Maybe most weren't, but there were enough to give pause to the interceptors and affect the fight.

And again, I'm not complaining (I was up at that height in my 109 myself), just arguing the facts here. The real fix for alt-monkey issues is HT putting in some nice penalties to mirror the real-life issues, like bombs getting far less accurate, pilots freezing in fighters that high (pilot wounds FTW!) and maybe gunners at those open waist guns, etc. Until then folks should quit whining either way (aside from whining to HT to try and get something done) and just deal with the game we have.

Well put Monk.

I suppose I should be happy that we had escorts that stayed high in the first place, after the first enemy con came by. Always seem to lose half the escort as they dive and chase the first dot they see.   :lol

In a properly flown formation of 17's comprised of multiple pilots with formations enabled...a few 262's here and there are child's play to deal with...

The 262's weakness is its speed and momentum..its predictable...its attack's are cyclic in nature...throw in it's horrible climb rate, a few lone 262 wolves are easily defeated and sent smoking home or into the ground...

Woe be the 17 pilot who drops back in formation though...if your caught out alone and the 262 wolves are around...your dead...stay tight...stay in formation...or die...

the 190's are bait at or above 25k...horrible vertical recovery after their first pass...they always end up scrappling from the belly position trying to catch back up...

262's ?....bring them on....semi-crunchy on the outside and soft in the middle...easy to set smoking....

It's the tater tots that worry me the most with their express elevator and turn capability...and their purpose driven existence...to deliver softball sized exploding rounds on soft bombers at altitude...

If I don't have to work that night, I so want in on this one. Even if I have to ride the whole way in a gunners position to do it (as I bet you'll have more than enough Luftwaffe already).
Treize (pronounced 'trays')- because 'Treisprezece' is too long and even harder to pronounce.

Those planning to fly B-17s (and I hope there's lots of ya!)
please make it a point to download, print and study
the Bomber (B-17) Control Guide.  Pay special attention
to the aerial gunnery segment.
You will need to know it to survive methinks!  ;)

I have a last minute vacancy for the group lead
of the 56th Fighter Group.

If there are any ROOK squadron commanders who
have an interest in leading this group please drop
me a PM as soon as you are able.  Kindly include
your email address as well.

A familiarity with leading missions and with the
P-47M would be a huge advantage.  You will
also need to download and have Ventrilo installed
on your computer to access our command net.

David
