If you're lucky enough to get a 1v1 then plane type or altitude shouldn't be a consideration.  I find it a refreshing change to be shot down by a single plane instead of three or four.

And you're one of those "good guys" Shiv...a good smart stick.  Always enjoyable running into you 1v1.  Win or lose, my hand's sweaty because I've just had an aeronautical chess match.   :salute

It occurs to me that this current style of play you are talking about is disadvantageous to the "lone wolf" style of play, i.e. going out in 1's and 2's in the MA and looking for a good duel.

The "hordeing" habit you describe however, is probably a result of the strategic players wanting to take bases. It's the most efficient way of accomplishing the task.  It's not unstoppable but for the lone wolf it's just a bad situation (unless you want to BnZ a few kills while they're busy).

As far as your prey flying through the ack, well, to quote a certain Joss Whedon villain "If your enemy goes to ground, then leave him no ground to go to". De-ack the field. 3 or 4 planes can do it in less than a minute.  Or dive in when he's hiding over the field, make it look like you're going for him, then when he turns knock off a soft gun.  Repeat until the ack is reduced or until he gives up a shot.

True, maybe we average pilots are flying in numbers these days, but it's a natural instinct to seek safety from the wolves if you're still a sheep.  It's no fun getting shot down over and over again.

As far as the K4 is concerned...well that's a topic for another thread.

first of all :cry :cry :cry I try not to whine often but c'mon now.

I was tryin to perk farm today in a p-40b, not the most intimidating plane as it is only armed with 4x.303 and 2x.50 cals. To my surprise La-7's, P-51's, Spit16 were still running from me without another greeny for an entire sector! screw em Ill continue on to the enemy base to see if anybody actually plays this game to dogfight, 6 red cons pop up on screen and guess who finally got the balls to fight now that the odds are 7v1. This scenario was repeated numerous times today.
Dam man if your gonna run fine! Dont come back an BnZ me while im already fighting with 3 or 4 planes!

Also I get into a 2v1 a couple of times and once i shoot one down the other guy runs....quality AH

A result of worrying about worthless score? maybe, but dam how are people gonna run from a 1v1 against a p-40b. I wonder if getting rid of worthless score would cause people to worry a little less about dieing.

Nah, the arena splits have solved that.  It is all 1vs 1 fighting in the MAs now  :rofl  Kidding aside though, it is not score.  If you look at their score it would be so low that one more death would not make a difference.  It is the human mentality and the squad training.  They don;t care about the achievement of winning a fight.  They only care about the kill when you cannot see them or defend yourself.  Kind of like the modern day tough guys that drive by, shoot you, and run.  They are tough while they can surprise you and they have the option to run, but non of them will walk up to you and try to through a punch  without 5 or 6 of their friends holding you down :rofl

I know quite a few guys that fly to survive.  To a certain degree, I am one.  For most that I know and myself, it's not about score and rank but rather getting kills and getting away with it.

I've been thinking on how people characterize others as 'timid' and 'dweebish' and soforth.  It seems to me that it's a spectrum, with the logical extension of one end being a guy that just flies at the enemy and tries to shoot them in the face until he dies, with absolutely no thought to survival or defense.  The logical extension of the other end is a guy that flies in the stratosphere and never engages.

Most people fall somewhere between those two extremes, and I think it colors everybody's perception of the others.  Only people who fly similarly to you are flying 'right' or 'honorably' or 'should expect to survive'.

For example to me, guys that get picked out of their 1v1s or dive into the middle of a swarm of red, get slow and get killed, IMO, stayed in the fight too long if they expect to survive.  They should've seen the second coming and either stopped playing with their food or egressed in the first case, and never gone into the middle of a red swarm and got slow in the second.

At the other end, guys that run when they are co-E or have advantage are weenies.  Only attacking when you outnumber the enemy is at best boring, at worst lame.  Vulching is situational to me.  If there's an attempt to take the town, I'll vulch all day.  If it's just for free kills, it's boring to me most of the time.  Except when I'm in a bad mood. <g>

I'm sure I'm timid to some people because I generally get out of the situation if I'm alone and 2 or more of the right plane or people are headed my way.  My $15, yadda.

In terms of chances of survival though, there's really little difference to me between getting slow and turning under a mass of red and HOing everything in sight, as both are going to get you killed pretty quickly 90% of the time.

That's a good analogy on the MA's, i fly lonewolf with my squad of one  :D sometimes ill wingup (or fly around)  people defending a base, but mostly what i find when flying alone is getting jumped by 3 to 4 or more planes, while I'm climbing out hvy, higher alt usually, but what really gets me is they ALL dive in guns a blazing, eyes a bulging outta there heads, 2 of the 4 shooting from 1 k out like it's some kinda fair fight  :rofl  granted I'm not a elite stick but i can hold my own, but not against the wolfpack, it seems like the mentality is just for the "Kill" . Either your fighting the horde or you become one of the horde

tell you how i fly, the other day i was defending a base with this other guy, enemy plane comes in and we both dive on him, i stayed right off the other guys wing and never fired a shot (could of easily just squeezed the trigger and killed him) me and him was on Vox and i told him to take the kill I'll watch your back and he did,  he thanked me for the help and off i flew again,i guess i like to fly around the 'ol school players which are getting harder to find  :headscratch:

THIS is the downside to the newer improved  base ack. And why I think proxies should no longer be awarded.
Everyone just seems to want to hide in it.

I would +1 that idea. Do away with proxies and the next time a guy refuses to engage i'll just bail, if i was not so worried about giving some jagbag the satisfaction of a kill without ever engaging.
Not to mention those field ak's, a couple of times It seems all ak is down but there is still that 1 and getting 1 shot killed by the gun emplacement controlled by the computer from 2k away...well that's a whole other thread itself

I admire your sense of teamwork and will attempt to adopt it more often. (I do help out other pilots in that fashion, especially if they are turnfighting and I have E).

I hate to point this out, but "lone wolf' tactics don't do much to take bases, which is, IMHO, the only good reason to horde, and the main reason why it's employed in the MA. Either everyone gets fixated on one base, or Busher or someone will organize a mission and off we go.  Given the amount of time you have to deack, drop the town and get troops in, it's very difficult (but not impossible) to take an airfield without a considerable number of planes.
