So, you're saying it won't make much difference?  After all, more Sioux at Little Big Horn wouldn't have made much difference to Custer.  :p

Other then having the distinction of being the type of plane used in the dropping of the two atom bombs. The 29's contribution to the war was insignificant at best. And with all the other absences in the game that could stand to be filled we simply didnt need this plane. And we already have planes with remote controled guns

Have to agree here. It was most famous for dropping the A-bomb. That's pretty much it, and the war could and would have been won without the use of it. It just ended it quicker.

I'd say there were a large number of Japanese who think it did more than drop the atomic bombs and who were significantly impacted by it.

It saw combat operations starting in June of 1944.  It merits inclusion in the game eventually, and the vote decided that "eventually" had arrived.  While I didn't vote for it, I do see merits in having it added.

Agree. Quite an obscure aircraft otherwise.

Quote
In the 14 months of their operations, from June 1944— when B-29
operations began in China—to August 15,1945 when Japan announced its
surrender, B-29s flew 380 combat missions, consisting of 31,000 sorties and
dropped 171,,000 tons of bombs and mines, with the loss of nearly 500 airplanes
and 3000 air crew members.
Through this strategic air warfare campaign, the B-29s achieved the
following:
— Heavy damage to 602 major Japanese war factories.
— Destruction of 83% of their oil refinery capability.
— Destruction with incendiaries of the industrial centers— the sites of their
widely dispersed war production—of 66 Japanese cities, including about 20
square miles of Tokyo.
(The B-29 Strategic Air Campaign Against Japan
by Henry C. Huglin)

Would have been a pure footnote if it hadn't been for the A-bomb. I wonder why the Japanese did fear it so much, and invested so much (increasingly desperate) effort in fighting it, with all that little impact the B-29 had.

To be honest, I would like to fly this plane, although I did not vote for it. I will take it up once it gets into the game once my meager bomber perks subside.

Hopefully this will bring a new crowd to AH that wanted the B29, and thank god there will be no more B29 wishlist threads.

Indeed it has merit. But did it have as much impact as the He-111, or the Yak-3, or the LaGG3, or the KI-43, or the Pe-2, or the Tu-2. I could go on.

I never said it didn't have merit, however the HE-111 has been asked for for how many years now?

Obviously the nearly year long raids over Japan in 29s were insignificant (Sarcasm).  The incendiary bombings implemented by Curt Le May accounted for a significantly higher percentage of destruction on the Japanese homeland than anything else we threw at them; (Excepting perhaps the Submarine "Silent Service"  sinking of a phenomenal amount of tonnage in food and materiel, not to mention the "Marus" that were required to get Japan the supplies it needed).

I might also add that the Japanese developed no less than 3 interceptors to deal with the B-29 Threat.
Although, the B-29 was never my first choice, and I can think of planes I would rather have, the B-29 has earned as much of a place in this game as any other plane in the AH lineup.
