2008 Duramax 2500 Diesel...125$ to fill yesterday...even with the chip set in high fuel economy mode, it still kills me every time at the pump to see that number go into the triple digits.  BOOOO!

i wouldn't mind the taxes on the gas.....if they were applied where they're supposed to be. here in nj, the last i checked, i think it was something like 75 cents a gallon was highway tax. it was supposed to go to maintaining our roads. but they changed it to the transportation fund or some silly crap.....and everyone then robbed from that fund, so the roads are crap.

according to the "flight computer" on my dakota, i'm averaging 14.7 on that. mostly around tgown driving, with a weekly trip to mcguire afb..which is about an 80 mile round trip for me.

The U.S. is lucky with the gas prices that we already have. We have one of the lowest in prices per barrel. Much of that is owed to U.S. holding world currency holder status. But because the value of the American Dollar is declining, we might lose that luxury.

At about US $4.20 per gallon for 92-octane premium, it's been just under US $50 to top off my 2003 MINI Cooper S, which still gets from 26 - 34 MPG.

Over in New Jersey it's about $0.40 cheaper per gallon, due to lower state taxes.  <sigh>

Makes you wonder how much of the cost of shipping it is linked to the cost of fueling the truck/train/airplane/cargo ship that brings it?

The funny thing about all this is for goods it is cheaper to ship them via cargo ship than any other way. I can send a full LCL which holds about 20k pounds dimensional weight (Less than Container Load) shipment to New Zealand from Wisconsin going out of Port of Los Angeles for less than $1500 USD AFTER paying all the customs duties on both ends of the shipment. I can bring a full 40k pound dimensional weight container from Korea to Alabama for around $900 USD AFTER paying same customs duties on both ends.

NOW I know they are using a different type of fuel but it all goes through the same refinery processes to get made into something different.

Also the energy companies just write off the transport costs as a business expense so they don't really pay anything for their fuel costs on the shipments of crude oil or refined products.

I fill up my car today with gas 1.17 CAD/L(4.53 USD/gallon) here in Windsor Ontario. But diesel price for my highway truck  is 1.23 CAD/L(4.76 USD/Gallon) and i burn about 80-100 gallons/day , to fill up  2x150 gallons tanks=1428 USD.

Every time somebody farts in the mideast "speculators" freak out!!

I'm not very informed at all on the subject, but what would happen to the oil prices if oil was taken off the "market"??

It would seem that the minoritys "panic" is dictating what the "majority" pays for the stuff.
